Need Help Making Decision?????????

Ok everyone, my birthday is nearing and I need help choosing my wheels. Ok, first off I am getting the "Konig Rated R 17X7 4-100/114." As for the tires, I want to get a set of 215/40-17 "Kumho ECSTA Supra 712 ." Discount tire charges around $125 per tire, so I went to tirerack.com and checked out their prices for the exact same tires, they are $83 per tire. Link The only concern I have when buying these from a seperate place that im buying my wheels from is that when I get these tires, they won't fit the wheel. I will get discount tire to install the tires on the rims and do all the prep work, but just wanted to make sure that this will all fit together on my civic ex. Thank You for all your help!

I wouldn't worry bout the tire not fitting the wheel....just make sure u get the correct width (215 or 205), and the correct rim size (17). The middle number is sidewall, and u may want 45....check the tire chart on this site. By buying the tires seperately from the wheels, all u gotta do is go to a local tire store and get them to mount and balance them for u, just make sure they do a good job. This is only gonna cost around 50 bux, so do the math and see if its a better deal.

What you should do is call discount tire direct and tell them that Tirerack is selling the same tire for much cheaper, can you match the price. Tirerack is their biggest competitor, so they'll probably do it. Also, don't forget, discount tire direct includes the shipping on the price, tirerack doesn't. In the end it might not be an amazing amount you save....

Just a suggestion.

205/40/17 & 215/40/17 will both easily fit on a 17x7 wheel. If you want a real short sidewall then go with the 40 sidewall. Nissan puts 215/45/17 tires on their 17" wheels on the Sentra SER. It will give you a little more softer ride if you went with 215/45/17 instead of 215/40/17. I used to have 205/40/17 tires on my car & I hated the short sidewall so I switched to 215/40/17 & the ride got a bit better & I was going to switch again to 215/45/17 but I decided to sell my wheels instead. To sum this up, my opinion is that 215/45/17 is your best bet & if you can't afford tires in that size, go with 215/40/17.

Now onto your purchasing dilema:

Tire Rack = $370 (roughly) Total
Discount Tire = $500 Total

Tire Rack usually charges around $35 for shipping for wheels or tires. But you also have to add in about $50 to have the tires mounted after you get them & If you bought the tires from Discount Tire they'd mount'em for free. So after ya figure in $50 for mounting, that brings Tire Racks total price to about $420. There is alot you have to figure in here. In the long run you will pay a bit more (about $80 difference) at Discount Tire but it will be more convenient for you.

But like he said, Tire Rack charges shipping while Discount Tire does not & I'd ask Discount Tire about matching someone elses price.
