Which Tires??????

Hey everyone, my dads getting me a set of 17" Konig Rated R wheels for my civic, but I need to help decide which type of tires to get. My friend told me that I should go with 215/45-17 because there are alot of pot holes in houston, and this type of tire is thicker. I was told that with a 205/45-17 tire is thinner in both the tire in general and the side wall, so your rims have a better chance of getting dented. If this is the case, then is there a large difference between 215/40-17 or 215/45-17,? The 215/40-17 are a little cheaper, and my father isn't rich, I just need something that will last under normal driving conditions for a while and has nice looking treads.

215/45 is closest to the stock tire diameter, so it won't throw off your odometer. Another option is 205/45. 40-series tires are going to put your odometer a few percent fast. I dunno if those are cheaper. Khumo 712s seem to be decent tires if you're on a budget.

c. are around $100 each

I'd spend anotehr $40/set for some Yokohama Parada's bro Find a cheap price online with shipping prices on hand. Bring it into Discount Tire and they'll try to match the price.

I recommend the Sumitomo HTR+ in 215/45. They are $93 everyday at Tirerack. I have had them for 10k miles now and they still look almost brand new. I have driven them in everything from 80+ degrees to 0 degrees, ice, rain, 6" snow, etc. and they are awesome all around tires. They handle great, look good and are W speed rated, and I have not had any problems with potholes (and we have a TON in St. Louis with all the snow we have had).

ok, I don't understand people putting 215/45/17 tires on their mags!!! The whole point of getting aftermarket wheels is to make them look bigger. Why put such a thick tire on afterwards and ruin the look!! You say you have a lot of potholes in Houston, that's crap!!! You should come to Quebec my friends, I'll show you what bad roads are. It has been proven Quebec has the worst roads in all of NA. And yet, I'm rolling on 215/35/18!!!

Anyways, if I were you, I would definately go for some 205/40/17 or max 215/40/17!!! Trust me, you won't regret it!
