What is the difference between stock tires and good tires?
I am still driving on the OEM tires the Firestone 690s and the general opinion is that these are terrible tires. To be honest on dry pavement, they don't seem that bad to me, just a tire. I have had some traction problems in snow, but with the front drive, I've been able to get out of it. So what improvements can I expect if I move up to a more expensive tire. Just don't keep telling me that the Firestones are
give me some specifics. What will be so much better with a better tire. Some of the tires that I like are the Goodyear Aquatred as long as it comes in 185 70 RS 14. Any other suggestions. Hopefully, I'll be able to get 30,000 miles out of the Firestones, unlike everyone else, who replaced them as soon as they drove away from the Honda dealer.

Stiffer sidewalls, different tread compound, better (word for letting water out quicker:_doh wet traction. Depends are you looking for top performance tires ie Bridgestone SO-3s, Toyo Proxies, Yokohama Paradas, etc. or touring tires ie Michelin XGT's, Yokohama Avid H4's or cheap but good for the money tires ie Kumho Ecsta 712's, Falken Azeni's.
For 14" tires I'd look into going for Falken Azenis. They are cheap, have excellent dry and surprisingly wet traction, and the stiff sidewalls help when going offramps that go in circles forever

Even if you're not too aggressive of a driver, you'll still notice the improved cornering, better braking, reduced road noise, and vastly improved wet traction. Not to mention that you'll probably end up with with better tread life, depending on which one you pick.

i agree with both of the above statements, another thing you can do is go to TireRack.com, they have a very good site, just go to choose a tire, pick to chose by size, then check all the brands youd be willing to buy, performance categories, and speed ratings. it will bring up a list of tire that match your criteria, choose one that interrests you, then read the reviews about the tire from previous owners of that tire, most tire will have reviews, in the reviews you can narrow it down to your car, and driving style, they also usually have survey results for most tires, which is a 1-10 rating in different categories givien by the customers with that tire. hope that helps! Good Luck!
