205/40/16 Dependable?
Ok from reading some of the current posts I am starting to doubt whether my tires are any good. Now I am not worried about tractio or performance, I just don't want them to bubble up or pop on me. I recently bought some Rs Limited 16's and put 205/40/16's on them, are these tires safe
or not
?
You'll just have to be a little more careful of potholes. Go up to the links at the top of the page and click on the "Tire Calc" link. You can plug in your 205/40-16 and see that you have about 3.2 inches of sidewall to protect your rims. Because the 40 series are smaller in diameter & circumference, the calculator will also tell you how far off your speedometer is.
I would be concerned with a 40 series tire on a 16 inch wheel. People take a risk with a 40 series on a 17 inch wheel, but on a 16 it may be too small. Not to mention throwing off the speedometer...
