205/60R15...slow? need suggestions!

Hi all,

i need to replace my stock firestone tires and i do NOT want to put another set of those POS on again. Now i was just looking around and i saw specials on some tires, but the closest size that it comes is 205/60R15...I went to the tire calc and it says 0.8% slow. Does this mean that if i drive for 1000 km...i'd only get 992 km on my odometer? Also, there's a fair amount of snow in the area where i live. I heard ppl say that narrow tire is better for slow, will this 2 cm make any difference? I'd think it'd even help more cuz it'd have better grip on different road surface than the firestones.

Yup, you'd actually be driving less than what the odometer says. The 205 tire is slightly bigger, so when it reads 70mph you actually doing ~71mph. I wouldnt worry about it though. With tire pressures, temp and wear it all roughly ends up about the same when you have similar sized tires.

Not sure about the snow since it doesnt snow where I live. But it sounds logical that a thinner tire would channel snow out better. I know that with rain, a thinner tire is better since it has a less tendency to hydroplane.

Hey
I live in New York City, hasn't really snowed yet,but in the rain my 205/60/15's are great. Way better than the stock Firestones. I do also have Bridestone Potenzas RE950's,probably one of the best all season tire. Check out the reviews on Tirerack.com. The difference is so small I didn't even notice it on the speedometer, odometer. Hope that helps.

Before I got my 16 inch rims and tires, I almost got that tire size for my stock rims. The dealer mounted them so I could see it and they look just fine. They will probably ride also a lot like the stock.

Dont know about the snow, if the tires are "M+S" they should work
