*Impact wrench ok?*

Yeah, so I am having my springs put on tomorrow morning, and the shop will put my wheels on while they're at it...since I don't have a torque wrench yet (no cash for a few weeks) should I have them put them on? What if they use an Impact wrench, is that ok?? I heard most tire/wheel places use impact wrenches because they're faster. It won't screw up my wheels/lugs right?

I've seen some good shops use an impact wrench just to drive the nuts in, then switch over to a hand torque wrench and torque the nuts down to spec.

what kind or rims? steel? Alloy? Aluminum? If you spent some $$$ on nice rims, get those bad boys torqued properly, in MHO there is not excuse for a decent shop not to have the right tools for the job.

Most shops use a torque converter on the end of the impact wrench so it doesn't hurt anything. Most likely thats what they will do.

CivicLX620 is absolutly right they throw that on the end and it puts the lugs on and torques them instantly... but if they don't use that they should use a hand one, just ask them to torque them if you are worried and they should.

If they know what they're doing they can set the torque with the impact wrench by varying the psi. Otherwise they can weaken and/or snap wheel studs. If they don't, then you will when taking the lug nuts off. Ours need to be tightened to 80 foot pounds. I tighten mine to 70 foot pounds since at 80 foot pounds there is over 12,000 pounds of force holding the wheel on to the hub. That's a lot of force! A screw is a wonderful invention. Thank you Archimedes!

Most shops use attachments based on the lug size that doesn't allow the impact wrentch to put more than like 65 foot pounds per lug for our size.
