Brake Problem.........
Hey everyone, I think there is a problem with my brakes. I think that something is wrong with my master cylinder or something. First off, I had to get new brake pads after 12,000 miles which is weird considering I don't brake hard at all. Secondly, the front brake discs are always scorching hot after I go driving, and the rear drum brakes are cold, which I think means that the rear brakes aren't doing any work. This is what my father told me, who is really good with cars. Does anyone think they know the problem or maybe have had a problem like this with their civic? I would really appreciate your help!

the contact surface on the pad/rotor and shoe/drum r always slightly touching each other, jack up the wheel ,rotate it and u will hear it,most stoppn effert is conduct by the from brakes and its next to an hot engine so it feels hotterto touch ,many factors contributed to your early pad replacement, riding the brakes is one, i read good "comment" on Hawk brake pads from tirerack.com about $80 per set, they r better pads then stock but they usually creat more dust.

maybe its the pads your using?
ya the front brakes always get really hot. hot enough to fry an egg on it.
the rear.. i dont even think it really helps with braking much so i would think it doesnt get very hot.. it may get hot from the tires but not from braking.. i'll try to check tonight.

The reason for needing to replace the pads as early as you do is that Honda uses very soft brakes. I had to have my rotors, pads and liners replaced at 12500 miles after at 5000 miles the rotors were resurfaced and then again another 1000 miles later. Your best bet is to buy aftermarket parts. The drums don't get hot because they don't do nearly as much as the rotors do.
