For People With 17" & 18" Rims! HELP ME!

I have just purchased my 2002 honda civic and want to put some nice rims on it. I'm still not sure if I want to put on 17" or 18" rims so i'm hoping you can help me with my decision. I drive about 65 miles a day to school and back so I have to take this into concideration. I like the look of the 18" but if I got them I would want no less profile than 40, is this possible? This is why I was leaning twards 17" cause I can put a 45 or 40 series tire on them. Please respond with any infomation that you can give me on pros' & cons' and any other comments or advise you can give me.

Thanks, Dan

If the roads are rough, get 17s w/ 215/45R17 tires. Closest OAD to stock, nice cushion for the big bumps and potholes, fills the wheelwells nicely. This is the combo I have on my ride and I have no complaints.

I have 18's and 215/40 yokos, its a beefier looking tire and it feels much safer than running the 35 series....i've driven on some rough roads where I could have bent a rim if not for the 40 series tires ....

ditto. im runnin the same and i live in pa, which is a state known to have the worst roads. if youre worried about the odometer, dont go with 215/40-18's, theyll be off, as will 215/40-17's.

For all practical purposes, you should get no larger than 17". 205/45/17 I feel is the best. 205/40/17 is what I have and the ride's a bit harsh ...I wouldn't be surprised if my rims get bent. You should get a 215/45 or 205/45 sidewall. It looks better (thin rubber looks nasty), and your ride will be smoother.

I would go w/ 17's also...just for practical reasons. The long run benefeit seems to be good, saving money, less potential for damage, and tire cost, that sorta thing.

FYI: the rim guard does nothing, its not to protect against a bent wheel, its SUPPOSED to help when you hit a curb parallel parking. trust me, ive "tested" the "rim protectors" a few times, its just an extra hunk of rubber that will tear when you scuff a curb. rim still gets scraped.

my falken has those "protectors" too but it doesnt really help when your rims stick out more then the tires still.
