Paint stock wheels?

Hi,

I have a 2004 Civic EX Coupe and the wheels have this rust? some kind of oxidation? (Please see pic) Can these be painted? I like the stock rims but would like to clean them up.

Thanks!

Mike

looks like the factory clear coat is damaged from salt or something, you could strip that and re-clear it for sure, i think those other bits between the spokes are painted so if you stripped the entire wheel, you'd have to paint those areas and then re-clear the face if you want it to look like it was the same as new.

or you can strip the wheels completely and do whatever you want to them,
as with every paint job good prep is key

I thought he was showing us the rusted lug nuts and wheel lock.

There are companies that specialize in wheel repair and whatnot...Our shop uses a mobile guy that stops in when called.

Best idea is to take sandpaper and sand the hubcap, but when you do that it will never look the same. I spray paint rims and do undercoat on trucks and cars for a living and spray paint yes can work miracles, but on plasti-dipped hubcaps no, your better off buying some new ones for about $60. But if you buy new ones or paint your existing ones spray some wheel cleaner on the metal rim and spray it off with either a pressure washer or water hose and let it dry for a while then spray paint those so it all looks new.

Re: Paint stock wheels?

DO NOT USE SAND PAPER!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (if you want to repair the clear coat)

I would suggest getting a shop to fix them, as long as the price makes sense; just as ezone mentioned. (under the value of buying a new set from honda/other new rims).

But if you want to do it your self then use aircraft paint stripper; then clear coat them again.
