Tire suggestions please
Tire suggestions please
Hi im relitivly new to the site this is my second post and I need suggestions for tires. I bought a set of LS integra meshies and have been doing some research but im just not sure what I need. These would be my summer rims so I would like summer tires. I dont do auto cross but I would like tires with a strong side wall and a semi sticky tread. Im also confused on the size as well, could you guys suggest a good combo/set up for me please. Thank you

Re: Tire suggestions please
The general rule of thumb is the stickier the tire the lower the tire life.
Are you looking for something sticky with a lot of traction or something with high tire life/high mileage

Re: Tire suggestions please
Im looking for something in between. I dont do autocross but I dont want to sacrafice grip for max tread life. She currently is not lowerd but plan on a 1" to 1.5" drop soon. Im curious to what a good or ideal tire size is for a 15 inch rim? I have been looking through the threads and I see alot of ideal 16 inch rim tire sizes but not a lot on 15inch tire size and a mix of real good traction with decent tread life. But if it had to be one or the other I would take grip for safety.
Re: Tire suggestions please
What are your current specs, and what are you running on right now? Plus, what's your budget range? I like the Pirelli P4s, good traction all year round, and the life is pretty decent on them. But, they are expensive. I run 195/60/R15 since I'm on stock rims right now. But, tires specs all depend on your wheel size, what ride height you want, and how much tire coverage you want on the road.
Re: Tire suggestions please
My current tires are 195/60R15 on steel rims. I have a set of Integra LS meshies I recently bought that im looking for maybe 205/55R15 or 50 series summer tires for the integra rims. I just dont want the tire rubbing on anything but would like it maybe a bit wider but not excessivly wide. I just dont know what brand of rubber I should choose either. I like the way the tires ride now just not the noise, maybe im to parnoid but they make me nervous when taking corners an waiting for the tire to roll over the rim or the car just slide. My buget is like $3-400 for 4 tires and I dont want the tires to look tiny on the car after I lower her a little bit. Sorry if any of this is confusing :-p

Re: Tire suggestions please
we do have a thread on tire reviews... but it is a bit outdated...
https://www.civicforums.com/forums/1...ew-thread.html
the thing with tires is, every year, newer and BETTER tires come out that may be even MORE sticky and have MORE tread wear than the previous generation...
here is a quick rundown of the tires ive used, if u want a more in depth review on any of them, let me know.
Bridgestone Potenzas RE92 195/60/15
they suck. period. dont even get them. the dry traction is ok, the rain traction is ok (at best) and they dont last very long.
Nitto NEO GENS 205/45/16
they are decent "performance all round tire." good dry traction, decent life (i got about 20k miles). but they SUCK MAD ***** when they are in the rain or any wet surface. suck suck suck in water.
Falken 912 215/45/16 and 205/60/15 (on ex-gf's accord)
great all around performance tire. excellent dry traction, excellent wet traction. i would buy this again BUT newer models have came out to replace the 912 (even tho they still make them). you cant go wrong with this tire.
Falken SN211 (new tire for 2012) 195/60/15
i bought these tires for my STOCK rims for a few reasons:
1. comfort on long road trips (much softer than my low profile 17")
2. long tire tread life. its rated at 720 tread wear. that is A LOT (aka extremely high)
3. new and improved tire that was meant to replace the falken 912.
so the SN211. they are A-FREAKING-MAZING tires. they are a "touring" tire with deep tread. they are EXTREMELY QUIET and EXTREMELY SMOOTH, and EXTREMELY COMFORTABLE on the road.... i was extremely suppressed. i drove 1200 miles in two days without ANY comfort problems on a recent road trip.
what really shocks me is that they are REALLY REALLY sticky for being a "touring tire" (coming back to my point on newer and improved tires that offer more traction+life). even when you are able to break these tires loose (slide the tires) they are very very predictable, which a bonus.
hows the wet? i drove in these in the rain going home from my road trip and it felt very stable in the rain. out of all the tires ive had, this tire performed BEST in the rain. hands down.
Falken Azenis 615K 215/40/17
these are semi-slick DOT competition tires. the treadwear is 200 (most tires are 300-400...remember the SN211 is 720). it is stick as hell......i repeat, it is STICKY AS HELL...traction is unbelievable.
the down side? i have about 8000miles on them and they are probably NOT going to last till 10,000 miles. (but you dont buy a semi-slick tire for tread life)

1) You haven't really said much as to what you want from your tires. You say traction over mileage, but we don't know exactly what kind of driving you do. Normal commuter driving, a racey daily driver, something you take to the track on the weekend, etc. would all yield different results imo.
2) We don't know what your actual wheel size is, so giving you proper tire sizes is a bit difficult. For example, my stock rims can accommodate my 195 width tires, BUT any wider will be a bit of a stretch. Ideally, I'd buy wider wheels to put on 205+ width tires. Make sense? So if we know the actual width, we can point you in the right direction there. All wheels are different, surprisingly lol.
3) What tires are you rolling on now? Not just the specs, but make/model? You say yours are a bit noisy, but it's hard to compare them to other tires when we don't know what you have.
4) When you say 50 series, do you mean the height of the sidewall (that's measured in millimeters)? If so, and you're running 15" rims, you're going to look like you have pizza cutter wheels. That's why I stuck with 60mm on mine.
5) Depending on what height you get for your tires sidewall give will vary. Certain models have a different stiffness to the sidewall, therefore you can get away with taller sidewalls with some tires, or only have lo-pro tires for others.
We need a bit more info to actually give you a real answer is all I'm saying lol. I know a little bit about the current lineups since I bought my P4's a few months ago, but without knowing what you have, it's hard to say where you should look.

1) he did. read previous post. he doesnt want to sacrifice traction for longevity. so he kinda wants both. easily do-able
2) he said 195 and he's running 195/60/15. he did mention he wants the LS (which is also a 15" rim, therefore using a 195 as well). funny you mention this, its actually a "stretch" not a "pinch." putting 205 on a 6" diameter rim (most stock-ish 15" rims) will pinch the tire. 6" diameter rims are really only good for tires up to a 195 width.
4) "50 series" means the side wall (height of tire, which is in aspect ration of the width of the tire)
OP: if you want a good all around performer tire/rim size, i would get 16" rims. they offer more performance tires with great life in that size (16")
you have a very limited selection with 15" tires in your range.
Re: Tire suggestions please
It just seemed a bit vague to me what kind of tire he wanted. Without saying how hard he drives, I might recommend a tire that doesn't hook up as well as he would like. Or, I might recommend a tire that will wear out too quick because it's really sticky. I'm just particular. I figured series meant sidewall, just wasn't sure. And that's a ratio? I thought is was the measurement. That's what I was taught in auto shop back in high school o.O
I don't know what wheel sizes come from the factory, but that's just me being particular lol.

Re: Tire suggestions please
this isnt directed at you roxie, so dont take it in the butt (wait, wrong thread. lol). its directed to "in general"
in general, people cannot give recommendations and still be credible if they dont actually own or extensively use that product. this goes for just about anything and it definitely applies for tires.
"i hear xxx is awesome, and this and that" is not the same in the credibility aspect as a person who as actually used the product extensively and can/cannot recommend it.

Re: Tire suggestions please
I wis I did buy a set of 16s now that I realize how hard it is to find the specific tire I want :-p. But LS rims I have always liked but didn't know how hard tires of what I want are to find. That why I decided to ask on here about tires for 15s because I saw so many well educated people on here. But as far as my driving habits go I dont go to any track or auto race but I drive aggresivly when im able to and no one is around. I do go out of state often over the course of a year. So would 205 be pinching the tire? Oh btw the falken sn212 and 912 is whats really got me interested.

Re: Tire suggestions please
both are really good tires (912 and sn211)
but the sn211 really DONT want to let go of the road... i find it harder to break the tires free where as when i had the 912, i could have easily broken them free on a turn.
overall, i would take the sn211 over the 912 ANY day

OP, I prefer Pirelli just because I've had good luck with them. I'm like you with driving: hard on the street, and no track use. I like my P4 tires, as they hook pretty damn well, and slip when I want them to (I powerslide a good amount when I'm bored, and have people in the backseat). I Have driven on Falken tires, but didn't enjoy them much. Don't know which model either, but they were pretty low on tread. I do like Kumho as they stick pretty well (can't remember which ones I drove on, but it wasn't my car). I drove those a decent amount and they hooked up pretty nicely.
One thing I always say to friends when they buy tires, "If you don't like the way the tread looks, you might not enjoy them." It's one of those small things that can bother you since you are going to be driving it. My old tread made me bonkers whenever I saw it lol. Just my 2 cents. Ok, I'm done

Through my shop both are $72 each so il take your word for it about the sn211 and go with those I will have them on order this week. I thank you so much for the help man and everyone else for the their input! Greatly appreciated!

Re: Tire suggestions please
just put the SN211 on ur mesh. then down the line, upgrade to a bigger, more performance orientated rim/tire.
use the stock rim as a long distance driver
use the more performance rim for daily hoonage.
