New / OLD Civic

Greetings - I am a totally new Honda owner, and new to this forum. I am 59 years young and have been a car guy since 15. Mostly Pontiac GTO's and a few street rods. Decided I needed a good grocery getter, and something to beat these high gas prices. I researched toyota corolla/camry, honda civic/accord, nissan spectra/altima, mazda's, hyundia accent/elantra Ford focus/tarus. Decided on a Honda. I searched for 2 months in the St. Louis area. Had a budget of 4K or under. Found me a nice 1995 Honda Civic EX with 202K on the REPAINTED body about 2 years ago. Mechanically is what sold me on the car. The car was owned by a certified Honda mechanic in St. Louis. A Honda mechanic for 20 + years. He bought this car from the dealership when a kid brought it in with a blown motor and couldn't afford a new motor. He ordered a new motor from Japan and ordered a 1.5 instead of a 1.6. Something about the Japenese 1.5 is better than the american assembled 1.6 ??? Don't know anything about this, but I took him for his word. He also replaced the radiator, axles / cv joints, clutch assembly, exhaust, brakes. He said the struts were fine, and even replaced the fluid in the 5-speed trani. The tires ride terrible and have extreme road noise, and I here some wind noise around the drivers door. Need a new weatherstripping there. Car seems to pull to the left on acceleration, and on the highway seems to have a slight pull to the left if I let go of the wheel. There is a differant (same size) tire on the right front which may be part of the drifting left problem. I would like to know what tires you all may recommend to aleveate road noise ??? Then I will get a front end alignment. Also where to get a door weatherstrip??? And would like to get a cold air intake BOLT ON set up because I heard that will increase gas mileage - is this true? If so, what is recommended? I would also like to change the rear tail lights to those cooler looking euro style - any recommendations? Would also like to get a owners manual maintenance intervals.

Re: New / OLD Civic

for the intake most of us sugest buying the tube from ebay, then buying i quality filter for it (like an aem) and hucking the filter it comes with. this should cost around $50-80 for the ebay tube and $25 ish for the filter. in contrast i baught a brand name and it cost me $325 for a tube and filter (not really worth it, but at least it looks great). it will be alot loader though, i like that but you might not.

as for pulling to the left, it could be the same as what's going on with my car. the front driver's side strut is out. i know the guy said the struts were good, but you should check for your own safety.
