Rims Basics

I have an 02 coupe that I like to make improvements on every now and then. I've put in a system, cold air intake, and just recently new headlights and taillights. I don't go too crazy, but I take pride in my civic. A couple of my friends including my gf think I should put rims on it. I've thought about it, but I currently have fairly new 14" tires and don't think 14" rims would look all that great. On the other hand, I can't justify the expense of going to 16" or 17". I've heard also that it worsens acceleration.

What do you think of 14" rims? Would it be worth it? What's involved in going larger?...new rims, tires, & rotors? What are the advantages and disadvantages?

I would lower it first then get rims. And I dont think it would look good with 14" rims. Plus there is too much sidewall on it. You should get at least 16" rims.

Re: Rims Basics

there are plenty of nice 14 inch rims, just look around. could even stick with a honda brand. check www.handaaccessories.com for a selection. also alot of place online sell aftermakret. maybe treadepot.com

if you go bigger on the rims, expect them to be heavier, lower acceleration (yea the civic will get even slower if you can believe it), worse gas mileage, bumpy ride, more expensive tires, greater chance of bending a rim, the list goes on.

Re: Rims Basics

I went 17's and wish I had gone 16. Don't get me wrong, I love my wheels, but I have some regrets. For one, if I had bought 205's instead of 215's I would have no rubbing issues. Also if I had gone 16's I could have had more rubber =ing an even more comfortable ride. It is all about preference though, like gear said, there are plenty of nice 14's, but if you don't think they would look good and you also don't want to go 16's, then go 15's ftw. If you don't plan to drop it though, go 17's.
