Rotors and Calipers Q?
I have a set of brembo vented rotors they are starting to get some rust on them, i HATE it! Is there such a company that produces a GOOD Stainless steel rotor? Also, how come you can't buy a performance caliper? Or even a nice looking one ? WTF. ANyone?

Re: Rotors and Calipers Q?
Nope, Rotors... ALL ROTORS, are made from Cast Iron, and Cast Iron is very susceptible to rusting.
Some companies plate their rotors, Nickel seems to be best. But even they rust eventually. My advice, Learn to ignore it.
For calipers... Why are you looking for a "performance" caliper?

Re: Rotors and Calipers Q?
Not necessarilly a performance caliper, but something nicer looking than OE, I've seen the nice brembo ones... I'm only going on asthetics for the caliper. As for the rotor, Dezod sells those AEM oversized rotors are they also cast iron, they look blackish in the picture.

Re: Rotors and Calipers Q?
i ended up painting the rotor lip on my brembos. but the stocks have some kind of coating that holds up pretty well. mine started flaking off but by that time they were used up anyway.

any way, if aesthetics is what you are looking for... then why not save up for one of the many big brake kits on the market?

I think Spoon makes calipers that mount to the stock bracket, or you could talk to Willwood... Either way isn't going to be cheep.

Re: Rotors and Calipers Q?
how the heck would you glue them on??
on one of the pixs (from another auction) it looks like they used hotglue or something....
i imagine the calipers get HOT HOT HOT as hell...iono how it would stay on or even melt..

Re: Rotors and Calipers Q?
nah calipers are pretty cool to the touch. its the rotors that get really hot. silicone would work well, even a non-hi temp version, but if you ever wanna take it off they would be ruined lol cause silicone isnt easy to get off. feel your caliper after alot of breaking and it will still be just warm.

wtf? my rims dont get hot either lol. i dont think theyre supposed to... they were warm like the caliper, and just for fun i touched the rotor and burned myself lol. but the other parts were not hot.
Re: Rotors and Calipers Q?
hey back to the subject....
I found these:
http://www.tirerack.com/brakes/brake...ar=&perfCode=S
the manufaturer doesn't seem to have a website...thats the only thing that preventing me from buying these....but they look really good and cryogenically treated.... plus they aren't slotted so u get oem feel. they don't look like they would rust cuz they are coated... tirerack is reputable so i donno

Re: Rotors and Calipers Q?
someone please tell me how freezing a metal rotor will do anything to its molecular structure. i studied alot of science and used cryo liquids before, but i just cant see how it would help a rotor. sounds like just another scam to me.

Too cool!
Last year we bought 4 rotors. Two were bone stock, and two were subjected to a process know as Cryogenically Treating – one of the high-tech buzzwords floating around the paddock. The rotors were run back-to-back on the same track on the same car on the same day with temperatures taken to make sure that they saw the same level of heat. Following the track session, the parts were removed and we had them literally dissected by a materials lab.
The testing conducted included surface hardness, grain structure analysis, density, and surface scanning with an electron microscope. Guess what – after seeing the heat of use, the rotors looked identical in every regard. This is not to say that there is not a benefit from treating other parts which see lower temperatures and/or have different material properties, but treating our rotors on our car showed no tangible benefits (note that it didn’t seem to hurt anything either). Come to your own conclusions, but in our case, we’ll pass.
