Re: tire question
the difference between these two
205/40/17
215/40/17
is just how wide the tire is, i use 215's on my car, there is no fitment problem or any rubbing, the wide tire provides more traction for the car when taking turns and etc...id recommend getting the 215 unless you are going to experience rubbing issues if you have a extreme drop

Re: tire question
I run Toyo proxes 4 215/40/ZR17
The ride is just fine the grip and handeling are super!
But they will look a little small in the wheal well until you lower the ride.

I know I've hit the curb hard about three times in the last 14 years I have been driving.

Re: tire question
Honestly though I can't comment on the ride qulity of 40 series on a tuned suspension
When I do finaly drop my car I might Find that I will need to go with a 45 series
I'm also considering switching to 15's I will need to talk to some of the Auto-cross guys about that I believe the are the rim size of choice for that style of driving

Re: tire question
Ride comfort is a given.
What about, traction, handling, response, Lateral G-force.
Have these factors all improved since switching to the 15's?
Also could you post some pics?
Re: tire question
Ride comfort. My car's engine is 99.9% stock (the .1% is for the short ram intake) so traction, lateral g-force, etc don't really get tested on my car. But the ride of the car is so much smoother that I will never go back to a 17" tire. My car is not dropped and I don't have any pictures with the new rims, but here is a picture of a silver Civic from the discount tire site, with Enkei PKR's. Looks basically like my car...
Re: tire question
hrmm.. so after all this...
205/40 - rougher ride
205/45 - smoother ride...
but with consideration I have TEIN Stechs and Tokico Blue Struts on my car .. I think im going to opt out for the lower profile and go with the 205/40 .. is the 40/45 THAT much of a difference?

Re: tire question
A cheep no name tire will not be built with the same materials and structure as the top of the line tires like Bridgstone or Michillen.
The 40 series will look a hell of a lot nicer than 45's the ride is something all us tuners have to live with.

Re: tire question
It is not just a question of 40 or 45 but also consider Brand.

Go with the 40 series

-Falken 512 (they come in both 205/45/17 & 205/40/17) 40@$91/tire 45@$123
-Fuzion HRi (they only come in 205/40/17) @ $90/tire
so I guess now it just comes down to Falken or Fuzion.. and from what Ive read on the forums the Fuzion seems to be the best choice.. esp since they are made from 2 big companies

Re: tire question
Nexen's are crap, and so are michelin's. Michelins are ok for regular driving, but not for summer tires. I'd go with the 512's over the fuzions. However the 512's might not last as long, but I think that's the sacrifice you have to make.
Don't cheap out with tires. You don't have to buy the most expensive ones, but don't go for the bargain barrel brands. Tires are one of the most important things on your car, if not the most important. They help out with acceleration, braking, and handling. Yes it can improve all of these depending on the tires you select.
Hey akz, go to tires23. I got my rims and tires there, those guys are good.
Hey don't post on TCC, those guys don't have that much knowledge on 7thgen civics. They know their 4th, 5th, and 6th gen civics, don't bother asking specific 7thgen questions there. They are ok with generic questions about about civics though.
