It would depend on what tire size you decide to run.

for 17s your lookin at a tire size of a 205/35/17 or a 205/40/17 with an 18 205/30/18 and sometimes a 215/30/18. it all depends, there are many pics on this site with people with drop and 17s and 18s, just use the search

if you wanna fill that wheel gap you would have to get like 205/50/18 or 205/55/18 lol, average is around 205/40/18

i hate to break it to you SOAD but a 205 50 18 will not fit on a honda civic without a lift kit, stock size is 185/70/14. (02 LX Sedan). to put that into non-tire busters lingo that is roughly 129mm high. stock. then take a 205/50/18 that is 102mm high on a 4inch bigger wheel and a drop. tell me how that will fit. not trying to be rude, just trying to spread my knowledge on tires. i am the shop manager at my local tire shop, i know my tires.

he said he is wondering if the new wheels will fill up the gap when not lowered and 205/40/17 or 18s wont at all, i am just telling him which tires would fill it up when not lowered....im not telling him to get these tires....205/50/17 or 18 would fill about a 4 finger gap

205 45 17 i say is the closest size on oem.. so 215 45 17 is alil bigger and!! 225 45 17 will still fit without a prob drop with 1 finger gap.
