Wheels - How Big Without Upgraded Brakes?
I don't want to make my car unsafe so I want to know how big I can go with new wheels without having to pour money into new brakes as well. I have a 2005 DX now so they're probably 15 inch wheels and I want to go with 18 inchers. It'll only be for show so they'll probably be uber heavy. I know already I'm going to have to get a suspension drop and camber kit so I wanted to eliminate new brakes too.

well there is a difference, but its to the point were on 99% of the time you wont need upgraded brakes, i do recommend eventually doing it, but right now you should be cool

I'm just worried about it being such a strain on my brakes, it'll wear them down in no time and maybe even cause damage not covered under warranty. I think I may even have drums in the rear.

I'm going all show, no go so the acceleration I'm not worried about. Otherwise I wouldn't have bought a DX. I just don't want to increase my stopping distance. So it's not that big a deal? Seriously?

if it's all show, then you'll be adding a lot of weight. Weight will put more strain on brakes when you want to slow down..... Civic brakes are alright... you can always put the wheels/tires on, drive around normally then decide on brakes.
i have 17"s usually and i just changed the pads (ebc green) and i have 27lb oz wheels (yes 27lb without the tires).. it stops fine... and the d17 is slow so u wont notice a difference in pickup haha

I noticed a differrence in braking and acceleration when I got my first set of rims. I had 25lbs motegi's, and they where 17" . Slow acceleration, and longer stopping distance.
I still have 17's now, but they are a lot lighter than 25lbs, and I don't really notice much of a difference between my 15's. Although my 15's are on winter tires, versus my summer tires on my 17's. Its not just the brakes and rims that can affect your braking and acceleration. Tires play a factor in acceleration and braking as well.
