tire help pls!!

sorry sorry sorry if this is is a waste, i'm a dumbass. . . the more i search the more i get confused . . . this is about tires . . .

currently, the size of my tire is 215/40/17 yokohomas. . . looking to get nexen n3000. if i replace the 215/40/17 with 205/40/17, would it fit on my wheel? i'm looking to lessen the risk of a bent rim. with 215's i cracked 2 rims already, by switching to 205's will it increase the risk and increase complications??? would the 205's be more closer to a low profile tire?

camber was fixed and now 215's rub on the rear fender wall. body shop gave me an estimate of $150 for all for corners to be cut/rolled to eliminate the rubbing.

pls help asap, i want to order the tires by tuesday of next week . . . thanks

anyone?

it depends how low your car is dropped, but 205/40/17 should be fine. 205 is the width of the tire; 40 is the aspect ratio or side wall height, meaning the sidewall is 40% of the tire width. It is actually a smaller tire than the 215's. to lessen the risk of a bent rim go with the 215/40/17 because that is actually a wider tire. In my opinion cut the corners of your fender and go with the wider tires, you also get the benefits of better traction with the wider tires beacuse your making more contact with the road.

well i highly suggest getting them rolled when you can since you are lowered, and when you get aligned that is when i began rubbing. i knew the bodyshop guy here in Atl, so i ot my rolling for $40, so unless you plan to get your car reapinted, get them rolled now, or youll be getting a new tire for that money every few months. but get them rolled!

downsizing your tire will put them at more risk....40% of 215 and 205 is not alot but since you already bent your rims twice you will increase the risk by going less sidewall.

buckshizzo already said that...

wow you must have some pretty horrible streets where you live... cuz i'm on 215/40/17 as well and havent had those problems... your offset on your rims probably doesnt work very well with you car too, thats why you are rubbing..

but ya.. the thicker the tire, the safer.. and i dont like the thought of rolled fenders...
