getting new brakes..........any suggestions on a combo?

im looking into replacing pads, rear shoes, and most likely the front rotors.
anyone have any suggestions on a good combo of parts?

i want some good performance out of them without an expensive big brake kit cus im lookin for over 200hp to the wheels and want to be able to slow down quick too.

Garbage rotors, honda shoes, axxis or hawk pads and superblue.
Eleventy billion HP takes the same amount of slow down as 3, so I don't know why you even bothered to post that, the car weighs X lbs, the brakes need to slow down X lbs.

yea trust me i know that, i just wanted to state that so people would get the idea that id probably be going faster. hoping to avoid a post like, civics arent fast enough to need better brakes by someone.

so you really think thats a good combo? i was thinkin brembo blanks or w/e those o.e. sized slotted rotors are that are available, then greenstuff pads and i forgot where i saw the shoes. whats superblue?

You don't need slotted (waste) brembo blanks are fine. Avoid greenshit like the plague (search you'll find all you need to know about them sucking), buy shoes from honda (they do next to nothing anyways). Superblue = ATE Superblue (AKA brake fluid).
HP still doesn't matter. You can do 125 with a stock engine too. Not that you should, but you can.

ugh, get off the hp thing, it was for more simple minded people than you i suppose. to me, it does matter a bit, more hp means go faster and accel faster meaning in some instances ill need to brake faster because ill reach a higher speed in a certain distance than in a stock civic. this is why cars like rs4's come with better brakes than a4's......but please lets not continue this, cus its not what i started a thread for.

since rear does 30% of braking i figure ill upgrade the shoes. what hawk pads do you recommend? any other companies?

There are no shoes. Porterfield makes them, but I know of no one who has spent the 80 or so dollars to use them.
I used HP+ for a little while, kinda indifferent on them. Working on my 3rd set of Axxis pads... I find them to be much more drivable, but have had mixed track luck with them.
Anyways, while there's educating going on... you get bigger brakes on more sports oriented cars for the cooling power. The normal brakes would work fine on an M3, you get bigger ones because if you hit the track and brake hard repeatedly, you'll overheat them. Rotors are big heat sinks, bigger they are longer it takes to overheat them, cooler they are, the better they stop.

sounds to me like the axxis will be better for hard daily driving and some track.

i'd go with brembo blanks and axxis ultimates, cuz i have wholesale hook ups. let me know if you want them and if you're in the SoCal area. i can get pair of blanks for 70(35 each) and ultimates for 40 bux , 110 total. if you want slotted/crossdrilled what ever i can get for like 20 bux more, but only if you want looks heh

rear discs are always fun. easy to install, just kinda hard to find. plus, they look a lot better behind rims than drums do

If thats what you pay wholesale you need to find a new wholesaler. importrp.com sells at those prices, you're not getting much of a deal at all.

Pick up the Ultimates if you're gonna fool around alot.
Just pick up the blanks, there's no need to waste all that money on slotted rotors, and the coating comes off once you hit the brakes.

the ultimates will last longer correct? at least thats what i thought they use kevlar in brakes and clutches for. id be willing to trade pad duration with braking power if the other ones are maybe better for that?. yea ill go for blanks than thanks.

ultimates last long? HAHAHA
No.
I got 13K out of the first set.... yes, with autocross and track time,
Second set lasted 600 miles (disintegrated on the track).
The better they stop, the less time they last... and they're carbon ceramic, not carbon kevlar.

yea i know the stopping grip is a tradeoff with pad longevity, ceramic kevlar is what the site you posted said. i dont care much about how long theyll last just as long as the job gets done.

if you're an autocross junkie or track junkie, ultimates. if you're weekend autox/track metalmasters.....personally the metal masters are better then oem of course and make some noise, but, it's not enough of an improvement. since they make noise, you might as well go all out on noise and get ultimates. but there is that issue of how often you wanna replace your pads and rotors.

I did.... Ran their R4S compound front and rear till the front pads wore out. if I feel like droping the $$$ on them I'd run em again. Note that Carbon Kevlar pads smell funny when they're hot...

Lets just say I put a lot of effort in to trying to overheat them one day on my way to Mammoth Mt.... were talking a Serious amount of Left foot brakeing through the Hills of Death Vally. Never did get them to fade but they did get real hot.

in "normal" curcumstances you'd probably never get them hot enough to smell them, except maybe when you initally bed them.
