Bald Tires

Quick question. I've got 2 tires on the rear axle that are bald due to the fact that i need an allignment pretty bad. The front 2 are in better shape, but still need to be replaced pretty soon. My question: Until I get new tires is it safer to have the balder tires on the front axle or the rear?

Im guessing the back since our cars are FWD so the front ones would wear out faster.

Rear. but neither is exactly safe. A trip to your local tire house is in short order. Get it aligned the same time as you get tires.

if you have bald tires and you are in the rain or snow its a problem. shouldnt be bad in santa cruz though, you get good weather there. loved the beaches when I was there too!

anyway, if you can see little lines poking up out of the rubber of the tire, those strips are telling you that you must immediatly replace the tire.

Yeeeah I know I've got to replace them - the bars have been showing for a little while now. I'm just in the middle of moving and this is one of the last things I want to think about. Well I guess I'll suck it up and go down tomorrow after work and get it all straightened out.

F the wear indicators, if you have steel showing out of the tire you need to get them replaced hehe and like Boilermaker said its better to have them on the back (if they have tread); better for traction purposes specially in wet weather so your rear end stays put.

I've got an appointment tomorrow to get new tires + alignment. I went with the same tire because I've been happy with em and since I don't have time to wait for tirerack to ship. I got em a size smaller tho so I can fix the camber issue that got me here in the first place. 195/60/15 Potenza RE950's. I wanted to get Es100 Yoks' but I couldn't find anybody in town with more than 2 of em.
