i HATE oem brake rotor bolts !!!

to make a long story short, i got home and was checkin my tire pressure and i noticed i had green grease all on the inside of my passenger wheel. i immediately knew that it was axle grease. so i pull my car in the garage jack it up and take off the wheel and the cv joint has a small gash in it and it shot the grease everywhere. i start to take off all the suspension and brake stuff and cleaning it all at the same time. i get to the point where i have to take off the rotor. the 2 screws that hold the rotor to the hub assembly are completly rusted and wont budge. i saturate the bastards with wd40 and i end up stripping the hell out of them. i call a friend over to see what to do and we use an impact screwdriver and finally get the bastards out. i tossed them in the neighbors yard because i'll never use them again. has anybody else's boot ripped in half. haha honda quoted me 305 to replace the boot, freakin 305 i laughed and hung up

yes, one of my boots ripped not too long ago. i got mine repaired for about $150+ but i didn't get it done from honda. and an impact screwdriver is about the only way you can get those screws out. mine even broke a bit while i was doing it.

yeah an impact driver is essential. my right front inner boot ripped once last year, it was covered under warranty though.

you dont have to use those screws, they just hold the rotor in place while you are working on the car. its an assembly line thing. just so it doesnt move around. The wheel will hold the rotor in place if you dont use them. Most cars dont have them anyway.

Also with the CV joint, it would be better to just replace the axle because if you lost that much grease out of the joint, most likely it is contaminated by dirt and what not and will fail very soon. If you are doing the work it would be cheaper to replace the boot, but time consuming. Just giving you heads up that it may fail. It may, it may not. But its up to you.

Use a little bit of anti-seize on the screws. It should make it easier to remove.

good idea about the anti seize. i've already called part stores and nobody has an axle for my car in stock if i ordered it i'd have to wait 3-4 days. and i cant do that i have to fix it and be back on the road by tonite

The main reason I would change the whole axle instead of the boot is becasue its so much easier, not so much the failing later part. All that grease ,work and hassle involving replacing that boot isn't worth it. I did a axle, by just doing the boot, then I did a whole axle(different car) and figured if just spend a little more, you get a whole axle and no headache.
