Happy birthday to me! The city just bent my rim! *NOW WITH PICS*

So im coming back from the strip club on my 19th birthday (around 2 am last night) and am driving westbound on Finch East @ Maxome (just before yonge st) and the moron construction workers decided they didnt feel like putting up ANY WARNING signs that there are those deep exposed metal plates in the ground. Damn City of Toronto!

I violently hit one at about 65 km/h. Worrying my tire was popped I was just waiting for my car to start pulling. Thankfully it didn't, I went to sleep thinking everythings okay, until I woke up this morning and noticed a dent in my rim about 2 inches wide.

grrr, took pics of the rim and the plates and the lack of signs. I talked to the construction manager and ofcourse he was no help, I told the *******s to have some consideration when there ripping up the road and put up BUMP signs or something.

Well, Im going to try my damn hardest to get the city to pay for this rim, but until then Im riding my winters.

Cruel world, and all on my birthday too...

Yeah, go to your local city/county website and research this.
Most places have forms where you can submit a damage claim if your vehicle has sustained damage resulting from city/county road work.

Sadly It was raining and I have HID's so they SUCK in the rain. All over Toronto they cut the road w/o signs and usually it doesnt do any damage (though I try and slow down) this time I had a car next to me, and the next cut was almost like 2 layers, so the rim wasn't just impacted in one spot but two. Hence why I have a two inch dent.

I am confident the city will repay me for the rims, unless there super **** about reciepts because I bought them new but from an insurance replacment.

THat night this happend all lanes were opened. The day I went to take pics BOTH lanes were closed with traffic being divereted to on-coming traffic lanes. Now at night they close the right lane because they realized taht some of those cuts are just plane unfair. They also added one BUMP sign but not where I dented the rim.

I will post pics tommorow soon as I find a place to store em, once you see this cut, you will definatly think its not fair.

Thankfully my friends got me drunk as hell on my birthday and the rims were the last of my concern so ah well. At least this way I can park my car at a friends house down town, drink cab it to there place and crash and drive home in the morning without having to worry about theives eyeing my rims.

they filled it with ashplat the day after, the contrustion manager has the nerve to say "eyyy! There was asphalt in it last night" Im like, I can see you guys filling it right now, and what you think Im making it up that there was no bump sign, there STILL is no bump sign. I could hear and feel my suspension bottom out, Im this close >< to having a bruise on my bum. Also the cut is the ENTIRE width of the lane. I kid you not theres a 1km stretch of these cuts, this one was the worse by far, and thankfully it was destined for my rim. On the bright side, id much rather bend a rim then blow a tire on the road. Not cost wise but Ive never blown a tire before (knock on vinyl) and dont feel like finding out what braking on 3 tires and 1 rim is like.

205/40/R17 are rubber bands despite what anyone says, thank god I wasn't lowered otherwise the damage could have been far worse.

I think Im going to demand a new strut while im at it.

This is one problem, however, where the public can help. If you see a pothole on a city street, call the City at 599-9090, push #164 and leave a message.

I think the below is for pronvicial highways.
