Tire sizing for 17x7 rim?
Tire sizing for 17x7 rim?
I have kinda been stuck on a 215-45-17 tire for a 17x7 rim but Im not sure anymore as I get closer to ordering the package.
I had a 205 on a 15" wheel and it hung over to much. I want a tire that is pretty flat on the sidewall so it doesnt overlip the rim too much to me that looks kinda all seasonish.
I saw my gf's mothers S2000 yesterday and it has teh stock 17's on it with a 235-40-17 tire. It fit pretty well so is 235 to much 215 to little?

I went to 205s after 215 due to some rubbing issues. I miss the meaty look but the 205s fit great. You can see the 205s here on 17X7 to see how it exposes the rims lip.

i have a 17X7.5 and fit a 205/45 tire no problem....see my members ride pics (the ones with the velox rims). i got different tires now that have mroe of a rim protector lip on it now.
Well 205 seems to be the way to go but def. a 45 series cause around here the roads are not all smooth. I am guessing the S2000 must have a 7.5 because the tire fits perfectly.
So a 205 will be nice? no rubbing worries, no overhang, sounds good. Not to mention my wheel has about a 1/2" to 1" lip on the edge so that should help.

the widest you can go with a civic unless you mod the wheel well, hubs and or axles with extenders (I wouldn't unless its strictly a show car) is 215 and thats pretty much for 17 18 and 19" rims only anything else (wider) is going to rub, reduce turining and probably be bad for the ride overall

I run 215/40/17 tires and have my car pretty low with no rubbing issues. You will get more traction with the wider tire but lower gas meilage. If the tires are going to rub or not mainly depends on the offset of the wheels.
That does look good but I think for now I will stick with 205 since I drive a lot and don't wanna sacrifice mileage to much. Also you have 215/40 and around here with a 40 series Im just asking for trouble with the road conditions I drive on daily. It seems that 215 is the max for a 17x7 wheel so I would rather be in the safe zone and a lot of people seem to like the 205 plus it saves me $20 on the wheel package I am getting! I cant wait to get pics up mid september!!!
