Lugs giving me a hard time
I've had this problem for a couple of months now. It's kind of on and off. 2 lugs on the driver side front tire keep coming loose. This started about the last time I rotated my tires. I'll tighten down my lugs ( Spline drive) and after about 2 miles the same ones come loose. After tightening them down and driving a little they came loose again so I switched some lugs around to find out if it was the stud or the lugs. Anyways I switched the 2 loose lugs in the front with 2 lugs in the back... drove on it and they stayed tight for about a month. This morning driving back from school I hit the brake and feel/hear a little clank clank clank. Sure enough the 2 lugs in the same spot are loose on the front driver's side tire are loose. Now here’s the question. What are my options, what do you suggest? If I could I would change out the whole setup since it is time for me to be changing my fluids and brakes but with college money is a factor.
Thanks in advance
John
Also my wheels are 16inch Rotas and I'm not sure what the brand of lugs are. I bought both off Prod about a year ago.

No they arn't stripped. I've checked and rechecked this many times. There is some rust inside the lugs and on the stud.
I'd like to take a look at it this afternoon but I'm not sure if I can it's supposed to rain. If I do I'll be sure to take some pics of the studs and lugs.

If they're aluminum, the threads probably stretched because someone overtorqued them at sometime. The only way to fix it is to replace them. They're rusty because the threads aren't meshing right and water is getting in there... thats a sign of something being wrong, because they should seal.
Spline drives are notorious for not holding their torque, so I'd just suggest ditching them for some better lugnuts. Steel lugnuts are cheap as hell and hold torque really well.

Great call, I've actually seen steel lugs do it to.

What lugnuts would you suggest ? I havn't really looked into them or shoped for them before. The ones I have now I got off prod because he had an extra set.
edit:/ I have Rota C8s if that makes a diffrence. Which I'm sure it does, the holes are kinda deep.

It makes a difference in that you probably need tuner style lugnuts (thin shank). Whats good? Hell I don't know whats good and cheap. Zenki nuts are pretty good, they're probably 60 or 70. When you get into the nuts for the tuner type holes, your options become limited, most of the good nuts are for racing wheels with big open hub decks. Mcgard must make something.
And the car questions I don't know... when you race a car, you know it like the back of your hand. Simple things like this have simple answers. You can't overtorque bolts... **** like this happens if you do.

Gorilla or McGard spline drive lugs are good. Rust resistant, and are tough as anything. I've had the gorillas for 3 years now and they still look great. Keep in mind I live in Canada and have to swap for my winters and back to summers every year, so they're definitely taking some abuse.

check for rust on the rotor face, and corrosion on the back side of the wheel where it meets the rotor and with proper torque they should never come loose
