whats the right psi?
well i have 215/40/16 tires on my 16'' wheels and it says max 51psi. well i dont kno whether the psi is right or not, but i want to kno where to set it at, because i looked on my tires and there worn in the middle more then the sides. maybe its cuz i have them inflated too much?? i think its set at between 40-44 psi. TIA btw, there falken ziex 512.
Im not sure about low pro's, that does seem like a lot of psi for the small tire but it could also be because it i a low pro that it needs more pressure to compensate. I typically see what the tire is and go about 2-4 below that number as that is the max, so a little below has always worked for me.

Tire PSI is based on vehicle weight... and the recomended PSI is posted in the driver side door well. if you have low profile tires, the general concensis is to increase PSI by 1-2 LBS per wheel size larger then stock.
So, if stocks were 15, and the recomended psi is 30, then with 16's you should be running 31-32 PSI....

The Max PSI is just a rating that they recommend not to exceed before the bead blows off. its NOT what you're supposed to run the tires at. It says in the door to fill them to 30. So maybe you could go for 32. But 51?
uh with any tire u never want to hit that max amount of psi the tires tell u. NEVER. even goin up to 40psi is dangerous enough cause if u drive around with that amount of pressure in yer tire and u hit a bump of some sort then yer askin for a buldge in the tire or a tire exploding. i recommend puttin any standard load tire or even performance tire between 32-35psi

this kinda topic has discussed numorous times i believe
no matter what the wheel sizes are,
anything from 30~35 should be fine (normal) , u don't ever want to go w/ max psi evEr....
I've set mine (215/40/18) at 32psi all around and it rides fine not too bumpy not too soft.

thats interesting, i've always run my tires at 40-44 all the time and never had a problem, whether it be my 16's now or my 17's i had. maybe thats why its always bumpy lol. i have em set between 30-34 now tho.

you can run at max psi, these people are silly... max psi is for max load. if you have a system, and your trunk is full of crap, and your backseat is full of crap, and you have a fat guy in the passenger seat, i would recomend 50 psi no problem. the door placard (sticker) says 30 because that is for ride comfort. if the center of your tire is going bald, your pressure is too high for your specified weight. let out 4-5 psi, and check the tread in a month. regulate them accordingly....

well i changed the one bald tire and i lowered all psi to 25 in order to even out the wearing in the middle, cuz the outsides are quite fine, so i hope that takes care of the problem at least for a few months. i took the psi tonight cuz it was cool and the tires were cold, so it said 25psi all around. hope thats low enough to do something. i wont go lower, i mean 20 psi is just dangerous i think.

Check your alignment... if one tire is bald and the others are not you may have a Toe issue.

if you go upp to 50 or so you risk a blowout at anytime, i mean hittin a pothole would explode the tire. 32 for compacts is the safest regardless of what a maxload indicates. that is better for when u got leaks and what not to last it a lil bit longer.
