Have you bent / warped your rims???
Have you bent / warped your rims???
I've got a set of "used" Rota Slips. When I bought them, I knew that ONE of the wheels was bent pretty good. So I got the wheels, put them on, and yeah, it vibrated pretty good. Bent wheel went on in the rear passenger spot. Well when I rotated my tires, I moved it up to the front passenger, which in turn blew out that strut/shock (which sucked). So I got new tires and one new rim and had them installed, aligned & balanced at Sears. The dude that did the work told me that ALL of my wheels were bent. I said WTF???
Does anyone else have problems with bending your rims? If so, why? Is it just that Rota Slips SUCK???

Such said, are we talking bent laterally (wobble), or as in bent on the lips?

if you read his post, it says that they were bent up pretty good ... sign #1 not to put it on. They wobbled when he put them on ... sign #2.
come on now people, THINK

I DID ask the guy if they vibrated. He did say they vibrated a little, but he also said he had just had them balanced and that they felt good. Again, it was just the one rim that was in question from day one. Only later did I realize that it was more than just the one rim.
I really don't have any idea what the guy did to these wheels, seems to me that he ran into a curb and it shoved the tire into the lip of the wheel, thus "bending" it. It was the lip that was bent. If you spun the wheel around, to the naked eye it seemed that only the lip was bent back, not the entire wheel. Only when I put it on the front right did I realize that it was bad. And it literally blew out that strut in 2 days. Shortly thereafter, I replaced the wheel and all 4 tires, expecting a smooth ride, but to my dismay, the installer tells me they are all slightly warped.
Seriously, if you rode in my car and you weren't paying attention, you probably couldn't tell that there was anything wrong, just maybe it feels like I need a balance.
But hey, the wheels were cheap as crap. This just kind of sped up my decision to get a coilover setup.
And I guess by all the responses, it seems like the Rotas don't have any bad rep with bending or warping, is that a good assumption?

I had a set of bent rims before... I also thought it was only 1 rim... visual inspection.... but visually, it's not easy to tell if a rim is bent enough to cause vibration... and rims can be bent to the point where it CANT be balanced anymore. Used rims aren't the best of choices.
Rota's are 1 of the best of the knock off wheel companies. ANY rim can bend if you run over a pot hole with 35 series tires and like 20PSI of air at high speeds.

If you were a level headed, ethical person, you'd just eat them, salvage the tires and mount them on new rims, turn the dented ones into hose reels or something.
