205/40/17...Problems?

I just ordered a new set of tires and rims with a 205/40/17 Kumho 711 Tire. I was wondering if anyone who has this set up, knows of any problems that I might occur (if any) since the tire + rim size is slightly smaller than that of the stock tires.

You wont have any problems whatsoever. Only thing that will be changed is that your odometer will read slightly quicker since the hub is turning a certain % quicker with the smaller circumfrence.

Quick Question: i have a similar situation. i just ordered Rota C10's 17" and for tires i want are 215/45/17. will i have any rubbing issues if i lower my car (2004 civic ex) when i make turns/u-turns? what about 225/45/17's? what difference does it make if i get 205/215/225 for the width? i mean, i think the rim is 17x7.5....so how come there are so many different width options? anyone can answer me or explain this to me or make recommendations? appreciate it! thanks!!

i'm running 205/40 on my spec2s..i also had them on my 712s...i have had no problems aside from rubbing but that was cuz of my offset...just the speedo reads faster than you're actually going...

(they have these things on the freeway in a construction zone that show your speed and how fast you're supposed to be going...when my needles at ~80, i'm only going like ~76. i might have put my s7 guages on funky too )

225's seem like they will be a little too large for your rims. I would recommend the 215''s you are already going for. Tire rub shouldn't be an issue unless you lower the car a drastic amount(2-2.5 inches) I'm running 15x8's with 225/50/15 tires and have no rubbing problems at all.

I've been reading that for racing the smaller the wheel the quicker the acceleration. Since the wheel + rim combo is slightly smaller than the stock tires and hub caps, does that mean my car will have slightly increased acceleration as well?

cool. thanks guys. cuz the dude im buying the wheels n tires from..keeps recommending 225's to me. and that seems super wide. wats the avg. price for Kumho Esta's Z-rated tires? for 215/45/17? anyone know? first he quoted me for 225/40/17's for 260 (set of 4), but now is saying that the 215/45/17's are 365. seems like an odd difference in price...maybe he just quoted me wrong to begin with??

for 'gangrel138' so ur saying that the 215/45/17 tires will have no rubbing issues if i lower it? is it possible to lower the front more than the back? i dont like the cars i see w/ the back lower than the front cuz of a system in the back or anything. i'd want the front to be slightly lower...

I have 205/40/17 Kumho 711's and have been quite happy with them. Being that theyre H rated tires they ride nice becuase of the softer side wall. The size difference is 4%. I thought this was a huge difference at first, but its not big deal. At 100mph, your really only going 96mph. Since speedometers vary in all cars it doesnt make much difference. When someone is cruising at 70 I'm at 70 also.

It depends on the way you plan to lower the car. There are several coilover systems that allow you to adjust the ride height so you can take the front lower than the back.

BUT WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT CUT YOUR SPRINGS. THIS IS A RECIPE FOR DISASTER!!! YOUR CAR WILL BOUNCE AROUND ON THE SMALLEST BUMPS AND WILL BE UNSAFE FOR THE ROAD!!!

NOPE I have 205/40/17s. The weight effect more than makes up for the lower gearing! (I too thought the same as you)
My motto has become -look good and go slow or not as good and still go slow!

hey thanks a lot guys. u've been real helpful. i am a complete nube when it comes to cars, and its specs. does anyone have any pictures of C10's on a red civic..or just a civic? i have a red 2004 civic. just thought the bronze wheels would complement the red.

btw. anyone know if there's any JDM-ish things i can do? i was trying to look around for a carbon fiber hood, but can't find any for an '04. is it available yet? how about the Mugen front lip? i know the front bumper for an '04 is a lil different, so maybe i wont even need the lip. i was also thinking of the Type-R side markers..the more flat and oval shaped one. any suggestions would be cool. and pictures too. cuz right now, my car is looking soooo stock!! i've been so broke before and now i have a job and i can get stuff..its actually pretty fun! hahaha.

I dont wanna be mean to ya...but Search!

Look through the threads and the Members rides sections...search for JDM, sidemarkers, etc...

Other than that start a new thread in one of the other forums, cause this isnt the one for front lips, sidemarkers, etc... try the Other Products and Parts one

I'm running 205-45-17's and I have 17,000 miles on my Kumho's. That's with a 2" drop and 2 degrees of negative camber in the back. Ride is stiff but that's fine with me cause I like the responsiveness. I'm sure 205-40-17's would be just fine too IMO.
