Wheels too wide to lower?

Has anyone lowered their car after putting on wider rims? I put on new wheels (7inch width) and they are now almost flush with the fenders (as opposed to stock which are inset about one inch and can hide in the wheel wells). I am concerned that if I lower it the wheels will rub on the fenders. Has anyone had this problem? I want to drop my car 1.5 inches.

In otherwords you've got wheels with a mid 30mm offset. Its not a problem, as long as you don't lower it too much. I've got a finger and a half gap, 37mm offset wheels and no issues.

They actually have a 40mm offset.

Then they're not flush with the fenders. Maybe flush with the inside of the lip, but not the outside of the fender. The rear suspension moves on an arc. You can get fairly close and still not rub the fender lip. You can also change the camber angle a little and get it to clear if its a tight fit.

Won't changing the camber make the tires wear funky? I just took a look with a straight edge. They are inset only 2-3mm. Keep in mind I live in Edmonton, where the winter absolutely destroys the roads. I'm considering getting the adjustable springs just to bail me out if I go to low.

40mm should be fine....especially when you drop it the camber might tuck it in. But 40 mm should be fine though.
