Rep Power: 0 To those with 17s.....
Now That I am considering getting 17s I had a few questions.....
1. How much did 17s cut down your mpg?
2. I head that bigger rims put wear on your transmission. True?
3. It I get the tire size 215/45/17 will my ride quality still be pretty good?
Thanks for all the help guys.

Rep Power: 297 You've been on here long enough to know to SEARCH. How many times has this thread been convered I cannot even tell you...
But Ill still do it...
1) Did not cut down my MPG at all, no change.
2) If this was true- would they have 19's and 20's stock on some cars? I mean, its possible, but car has big wheels now a days pretty much.
3) 215/45/17 do ride pretty nice but they look fugly and dont even look like 17's...Plus you scrub if you drop more than like an inch.

Rep Power: 261 I have 215/45/17's too, and i third that!/\/\ Granted they do look kinda fuggly. My 17's look like freakin 16's. Mainly cuz of the lip on them, but the tires make it look worse. Oh and my car's lowered 1.5" and my tires don't scrape like someone up there said they would.

Rep Power: 0 I have 17s with 45 Kuhmos and i'm content. 40s do look better but then you have to worry even more about pot holes and stuff. Also the guys at Discount Tire said there is a huge ride difference between 40s and 45s.

Rep Power: 286 1. dont get 17s cuz they look tiny and you will regret it later on if you were going for a good look.
2. a 17 inch rim wrapped in 205-40-17 tire is actaully a bit smaller in OVERALL diameter then your stock wheels......... when i put my 17s inch rim next to my stock steelie the stock tire was about an inch higher then the 17'' in the 205/40 rubber
3. gas milege should remain about the same

Rep Power: 310 215/40/17. Just a little oversized because the streets I have to drive on are crappy.
I bought a set of allseason Sumitomo HTR+ from Tire Rack. Very good handling in snow. and then two tires got slashed so i bought new tires for my 18s instead.
Even with my 18s I still get 40mpg. My route is half street and half highway, and I hardly ever beat my car.

Rep Power: 287 I have 205/40/17 Kumho 711's. Theyre H rated, so the sidewalls are softer then Z. This makes a big difference in comfort. I didnt like the big tire look of 215/45/17's so I took a step down in traction by going with the H rated tire. Well worth it since I'm not running above the H rating of 112MPH anyways.
If you keep them inflated properly and watch out for pot holes you'll be okay. This goes for just about any tire unless your 4x4'in.
My gas mileage didnt change. I still get anywhere from 34-37mpg, and when people are cruising at 70mph on the highway my speedo reads the same.
