upgrade to 17": camber problem?

hi guys!

I just read from some dudes in tirerack.com, that his 01 Civic got a problem with camber.

quote:
"I up graded the tire size from 15" to 17". This has caused a slight camber problem. I will be adding the camber kit very soon."

now, can you guys tell me....is this true?

what is this problem actually? how to fix it? is it a "big" problem?

thanks!!!!

rijowysock will become famous soon enough
changing tire size does not affect camber.. **** take ur fenders off and put a 48" tire on there and it'l still be same as b4... changing height of car w/ suspension mods does change it... in rear 1degree for every .7" lowered and front is very minor i think its 1degree for every 1.6"

Wait until you lower the car... If you car isn't already lowered. Then you'll have camber problems, but most likely more in the rear.

You'll be fine if you're sitting on your stock shocks and springs.

Camber is where the top of the tire tilts in, because of more weight on the shock. This, in turn, pushes the bottom of the tire out.

What basically happens with negative camber is that you start riding on the inside of the tire and wear the hell out of it. So, no even treadwear across the whole tire. This is where a camber kit come in. It is an adjustable bolt that pushes the top of the tire back out, so the whole tire is flat on the ground again.

^ Negative camber in the rear.

^ Friends DA9 has negative camber in the front.

Well, your rear will actually be dropped more than the front, so you'll have more negative camber out back. This is totally normal.

Read the Autox FAQ. It talks about camber, caster and toe. It has some links.
