Any Info on Exel rims will Help!!!
Ive been looking to buy some used 17" Velox Vx-8's in gunmetal with polished lip. Ive been waiting for the right price, but no luck. I found someone selling 17" Exel V-8 gunmetal with polished lip for 400 dollars. I use to have chrome rims on my civic and was a horrible experience. What steps can i take this time to make sure i dont have problems when i buy rims? What questions are crucial when buying rims? The most important thing for me is ride quality.
This is his add:
The rims have curbs and minor scratches, but not too bad. These are gunmetal with a polish lip. Tires are ok, not too good, not too bad. I'm actually selling these rims for my cousin. You can see the wheels are going for $799 with tires. This pretty much half off. THese are four lugs, came off of a 92 integra.
I will post the pictures once he sends them to me later today. Any info and comments help. Thanks everyrone

What questions are crucial when buying rims?
2. Are they a name brand? I firmly believe in getting what you pay for, and I also believe in GIGO (Garbage in Garbage out). If you buy ****, don't expect a diamond. No need for Volks, but all you really need to do is take a look at the difference between race cars and rice cars, you'll see whats good. Cheap buys you lots of things, but you find yourself replacing them frequently, when you could have just bought one set of good ones and they'll last.
3. Reputations go along way in speaking of quality. If lots of people have them, and they've had good experiences, then its usually a fair bet that they're good. Companies that have been around for just short of forever are also a good sign. If it looks too cheap to be true, something got skimped. They either look like **** (bad finish), they're not strong enough (potholes or hard cornering) or they're not made to very tight tolerances (they're out of round or out of balance and the material they were cast from probably sucks). Of course if the finish sucks, you can fix that fairly easily. If a pot hole smashes one, its an inconvience, but you opted to buy ****, so it wouldn't cost much to fix it, but if you get something that isn't made right, you're screwed. You can't go back and fix airbubbles in the casting, nor can you fix one side being cast thicker than the other.
4. OZ, Enkei, BBS, Ray's Engineering, Racinghart and several other wheel companies supply Original Equipment (factory) wheels. If the factory approves of it, you can approve of the quality. The factory has to account for idiots who treat wheels like garbage, and yet must still survive.
Now, do I say spend $3000? No. There are a few diamonds in the rough... Rota for instance, somehow through their knocking off of high end wheels, manages to sell a decient wheel for a low price. Enkei's "race" line offers quality wheels and good prices. 5Zigen does the same. In all honesty, the minimum I'd spend on a set of 17" wheels is $600 for wheels ONLY. Not counting tires. Now of course, as you go up from there, you'll find yourself with stronger wheels, made through better processes with better materials, that give you a stronger wheel. At some point, yes the name comes in, but A LOT of other stuff comes with it. At who knows how much per wheel, HRE will send you a new wheel that is the same as your already custom fit wheel should you somehow find a way to dent one.

I got the pictures, no need to post though since i am not buying them thanks to your advice. I will be patient and wait till i find the velox vx8's at a decent price. I found some for 400 17 x7.5 for 400 dollars brand new. I really want to buy them but dont have enough for tires, I cant stand bad ride quality so i dont want to buy cheap tires. Ive seen a lot of cars with kuhmo tires, are these good for ride quality? Im not a racer and just goin for look and dont want my ride quality to change.
