Shaking in Steering
Shaking in Steering
Ok here's is what happend. I had rims and tires put on the vic and now the steering shakes pretty bad, but it is just the steering wheel and only over 65 mph. Now the first time this happend it was after they put them on and I was never told by them that they needed hub rings, so I purchased those and they installed them. Still did it, so I took it to a different tire discounters and had them look at them. They said they were not balanced and that they did that. Two hours later when I got on the highway it was doing it again, maybe even worse. So my question it what the F*ck is going on with this. It is getting very old. Also I was hearing a noise coming from the front drivers side tire after they installed the hub rings. They said that the noise was the spring not being seated. I personally think they they are full on Sh*t. The springs were on there for a month and I never heard anything until after they had touched my car. Any ideas? Any help is greatly appreciated.

i had the same wheel problem when i got different steelies and tires. i asked the guy at the shop to put the tires on my stock steelies and the shaking stopped. so it just might be the rims themselves giving the problems.
i got brand new rims and tires sat. and they did they same thing when i reached 60mph. so i took it back today and i looked at the machine when he was re-balancing them and it was off by .25 so he had to add another weight to the front rims, and after that it all went away. i got up to 115mph and rode smooth. so try taking it to a performance shop and ask to re-balance them, or take it back where u bought them from and tell them to recheck and watch while they r doing it.

Rotate the wheels from the front to the back and test drive. If it the vibration goes to the rear, its something with the way theyre balanced. Have them rebalance them again. If the vibration still happens up front after rotating them, it could be a bad tire, sidewall, tread or some suspension component.

you implied that it seemed to get worse on the last drive after driving it a while? Sounds like it could be a defective tire, out of round maybe or seperated possibly.

Sounds to me like they are just out of balance. The shop that you took them to probably just did a rush job. Have them rebalanced. Also check the tires, make sure they look ok, no bulges or anything.

had the same problem when i put my friends steelies on. its the tire balance. it must be off. put my old tires back on and it was fine. also it could be a underinflated tire..
I got a shake problem as well. I hit a railroad track going about 30 mph and it busted busted my tire and slightly bent my rim on the front drivers side. The next day I got both front tires replaced and left tire place and my car started shaking like crazy when I got over about 20 mph. Took them back and had the re-balance them...same problem....went back to my stock rims and tires same problem. I have no idea about what is wrong now, no matter what tires is on my car it shakes. You guys have any ideas?!?

just go to the dealership or any mechanic to check your bearing. on another note i think the problem i had with the steelies were that they needed hubcentric rings. right now i have Enkei rims and hubcentric rings were put on because it was suggested by the store mechanic where i got the rims. dont worry though, the rings were free.

I had 14 inch motegi mr7's that did it even when they had the stock tires. I sold the 14 inch rims to a guy with a galant and it does the same thing to him. I now have 18 inch rims and it still shakes even with hub centric rings. My brother's 17 inch rims on his camry shake too. It's not the car, its the aftermarket rims. All the balancing and alignment in the world won't fix it.

oh sh*t... i have the same problem. when i turn as much as i can and apply the brakes it pops around alot too. and i dont know what the hell it is. i was thinkin of bleaching the brakes and refillin it with new brake fluide. but i get the same problem. since the first week after gettin out the dealer...
I'm not a mechanic or anything, but the popping sound while turning happened on my Grand Am. It was the CV joint. I doubt that it would go bad on a new car, but it could be worth looking at...

if the sound is a repeating pop, pop, pop, pop while in a turn and moving forward
and more noticable while applying the brake in the turn. It mostlikely is the cv-joint . First thing to look for is a torn cv-boot. If the boot is torn replace at the min the joint and or complete cv-shaft. Cv-joints are basicaly a half doze bearings that are under VERY tight clearances. If any dirt at all has entered the joint it will most likely need replaced
