Brake problems

Alright qwell theres 2 things I'm mad about but the brakes are the worst. Whenever I back my car at of my driveway the brakes sqeek and it really pisses me off. They don't sqeek after I drive for a whhile and they never sqeek when I brake after going foward, they only squeek in reverse. ARG! Someone told me that civics have self adjusting reaer brakes and thats why they squeek only in reverse, but I don't think so.

Also my maitenence required light comes on for like 10 seconds (it blinks) and then goes away. I think thats wierd cuz my oil has been changed and I'm 99 percent sure nothings wrong with the car. I dunno but it makes me mad also.

Please help me before I pull out a shotgun and shoot my car, and I know you all dont want that to happen.

The maintenance required light is only a reminder to change your oil, rotate tires, etc, and you can easily reset it, read the manual.
Need way more info about your brakes, how many miles are you at, ever replaced anything, etc.

Your welcome. And, don't shoot the thing over squealing brakes man. I mean seriously, I'd rather have brake squeaking than all the problems my g/f's Cavalier has, I'm almost always working on that beast. Anyways, are you sure it's your back brakes? With only 16k I highly doubt any of your brakes are shot already, so it's probably not the wear indicator on the fronts. It's more likely that you have warped drums or overheated the shoes. Have you ever driven around with the parking brake accidentally up?

Nah I havent driven wih the parking brake up, but its awfuly tempting lol. I leaned my head out the window beofre when it was doing it and its def. the front ones. To bad brakes are considered wear and tear,, damn warrenty.

it's definintely your FRONT brake pads. I experienced the same noise and changing my front pads solved the problem. I would try that first. It's pretty easy to change the pads, and it only cost me $50 for ceramic brake pads.

Good luck!

no problem. i can't believe that your brake pads are already that worn @ 16k miles. i have an '01 w/ 105k (yeah, i know) and i didn't actually change mine until 100k.

anyway, i would defiinitely check the pads first before going any further.

Dude, all cars with disks do that. The brake disk will rust ever so slightly over night, specially in high humidity, the squeak is the brake pad cleaning the thin layer of rust off the disk. Completely normal, I wouldnt worry about it.

if the noise is continous, that's not normal. i would still check to make sure your pads aren't worn down.

it happens everytime I back out of something after the car has been off for say mabey 5 hours. Overnight and the next mroning i back our it happens, yes, but itll also happen after it has sat in my school parking lot for 6 hours, and then itll happen when i back out of my girlfriends driveway after like 4 hours of it sitting there. I dunno but its really pissing me off. If it was rust it wouldent do it almost everytime.
