I just got my big brake kit ( no calipers ). They look Great. Anodized center attachment with gunmetal rotor. U need 17s or bigger to fit them but worth the clean look.

it doesn't really make a difference in stopping though, does it? I thought you just throw off the balanced system you got-

More surface area for your pads help stopping distance. Or atleast that is what i have always been told

you'd prolly need upgraded pads as well if you're going with new rotors.

yea, i thought that if you got bigger rotors that would throw off the whole balance

Those rotors look’s good. A bigger rotor helps a lot in stopping because they have more of a surface area. Slotted and cross drilled rotors run’s cooler and will clean your brake pads better. Bigger rotors will not throw off the balance on the car. If your car has ABS that the only time you will be concern with balance. Bigger rotors are just like putting 17in wheels on.

Using the OEM calipers they are reposistioned and are able to cover more surface area thus a arder bite when braking. I have the AEM ones and i love them, had them about a year and there is a REAL differece. And you can use OEM brake pads however the performance ones will be better.

Question:

My friend got AEM and they came in gunmetal, but they scratched down to a silver color, which is supposed to happen.

Will the gunmetal tenzo's scratch down to silver too or will they stay gunmetal??

I want something that stays gunmetal in color to match my car..

no because when the pads press against the rotor the finish will come off. Mt AEM was gold colored until i drove it around a few miles and did some hard braking.

420 shipped about 2 years ago. These are impossible to find since AEM switched from the lighter, two piece colored rotors to the now Carbon black heavier single pievce rotors.

You could always pull off the hat if they are two piece and powder coat the hat gunmetal since thats the only part that wont be touched.

I'm not really worried about it all that much, thanks for the input though. I figured they couldn't stay gunmetal, although it would look tight if it could.. it'd match the ol' rims imo

Thanks again

it comes with a bracket to move the caliper out. Does anyone have steel braided lined with that upgrade kit? how do the braided lines feel?

ya, i was wondering what steel braided lines do, here is what it says on the site that i would get them from:

Edelbrock Pre-Assembled Brake Line Kits
(SKU#EDE684630)

2001-03 CIVIC DX, LX, EX

Direct bolt-on Brake Line Kits bring the ultimate in braking performance to sport compacts. They improve your braking performance for competition or every-day driving. Featuring stainless steel braided hose with zinc-plated fittings, Russell Brake Line Kits are factory assembled for installation convenience. Replacement of OE rubber lines with Russell brake lines increases braking performance and reduces brake pedal travel. Russell brake lines meet the strict guidelines of the D.O.T. MVSS-106 requirements. Each kit comes with all necessary hardware and fittings.

what is the improvement?

i can get them for anyone for $300 out the door installed. Maybe $275.00 + Tax this is cheaper scince u dont have to pay shipping. U will have to come pick it up though. the place is in San Leandro. ( Pro1 Motorsport) it's on mission Next to pep boys. once again you do have to modify the caliper and this is why its better to have someone do the install. If your a good machanic then by all means do it yourself. But for an even $300 you can get them installed and not have to get dirty.

WITH THE RIGHT TOOLS the job is easy. It took me about 45min for both. Surface area does lead to better braking but the rotors are much heavier than stock. Not heavy enough to "unbalance" anything. EBC brake pads would probably be a lot better but you can definetly stick with your oem's. The zinc is blended in, not just a coating, This will prevent rust for the life of the rotor. As for the color of them, it looks to me like it Should be blended into the metal. No skratches yet. they come in red and blue anodized.

Yea the AEM install wasnt hard to do either. The AEM ones werent much heavier than the stock ones. I mean consider how much more surface area that allow they were a prety good weight.
