18 is around average, maybe slightly lighter. Depends which bracket of rims you're looking at (show or go). For show, yah, thats light, for go, thats a lot. 17" Go rims should be around 14-15lbs.

It beats OEM wheels on actual weight, but the (and I don’t know what this is called) Torsional weight is probably much more with the 17's vs. the smaller (But heavier) 15. Reason: on the 17 the heaviest portion of the wheel (The rim where the tires mount) is farther away from the rotational center of the axle. This means that it takes more torque to spin the Larger Lighter wheel rather then the Smaller (Slightly) heavier wheel. The 17 would have to be substantially lighter to counter its larger size. so if you are going for performance and want the Absolute most out of your car then A light set of the Smallest (But wide) wheel is the way to go. 15X7 or 15X6.5 would be good, but if you can find a good tire in a 14X7 or 14.6.5 that would be better.

Ok... here lemme put this in some perspective for ya...
The 2 sets of rims I've actually timed my car on (all be it GTECH, but its a relatively level playing field, same road, relatively same conditions, etc...)
The first ones I tried were my 2000 Si wheels. They're 16.5 lbs, about 36 with the tires on, and obviously 15"x6".
The Second ones were my OZs... at 15.1lbs, but 17x7", with tires they're also in the neighborhood of 36 lbs.
The car goes 0-60 in an average 7.8 sec on 15's and about 8-8.1 on the OZs... its all because of the extra torque wasted to get the wheels rolling from a stand still. I've said it many times before, might as well say it again... Inertia is a bitch.
Now lets go the other way... Lets strap my Speedmasters on... at 15x6.5 and 10.36lbs, but with 205/50/15 tires on for a 6% gearing advantage. I haven't tried it yet, but I have a funny feeling the car will be movin' pretty quick in relation to the times I've already clocked off.

Shopping at wal-mart for car stuff=suicide.
I am not saying wal-mart is a bad place but I would strongly suggest to go to a professional store to get your wheels from.
And also. My wheels are 17" and they weight about 15.8 lbs. If you want really light, go with some SSR Comps.
