Greetings everyone
I have a 2002 1.7 EL and I am considering to replace the stock firestone's FR690's for good with all-season tires that have good handling on dry and wet and that actually grip in the winter. Right now I got my eye on the Falken Ziex ZE-512's. Has anyone had experience with these in snow?? Is Falken a high end brand name? 1010tires.com seem to rate them one of the highest ratings for snow traction and pretty good ratings for everything else but they seem too sporty for good snow traction. Are there any other tires I should be aware of???
Thank you!
Jeff

Rep Power: 0 The best thing you can do is dump those firestones. Thunder Bay? Man I'ed be getten some serious snows like blizzaks, not too big maybe 205/60-15. Falken is a lower priced euro tire. Tire Rack used to sell them. I don't know if they still do. Not much of a winter tire.

Rep Power: 0 I have Michelin Hydroedge, in the same size as the OEM Firestones. They are amazing! Great in Rain, Snow etc., nice and quite, smooth ride, 85k Mile Warranty, yowza! Pricey though, I dumped $460 for mine (including installation/lifetime rotation and balancing) from WalMart

Rep Power: 0 Hmm, the Michelic Hydroedge are too pricey. Although I do like the style of it.. but they are only T-rated tires. Right now I got 2 specific tires narrowed down. The Yokohama Avid H4's and and Potenza RE950's- Does any 1 have either???

Rep Power: 0 I'm about to order a set of Potenza RE950s. They seem to be the undisputed champion of high-performance all seasons. I was thinking about the Falken 512s, but I found a shop that cut me a good deal on the 950s to lessen the price gap so I jumped on it.

Rep Power: 0 I don't if in US they have the same names but my choices are:
Goodyear Eagle F1 - There ain't better in all-season tyres. Specially good in wet
Potenza S03 - My favorite till F1's last generation
Toyo Proxes T1-s - Excellent price/quality ratio

Rep Power: 504 I'm getting some Falken 512's. Everyone seems to like them and the Potenzas... but Consumer Reports placed the Falkens higher than the Potenzas in snow handling (Potenzas got the worst possible grade in snow performance if I remember correctly), plus the Falkens are cheaper, so that's why I'm getting them.

Rep Power: 0 hmmm. although the Falken 512's are classified as all-season tires, the tread pattern is just too agressive and are more of a summer -oriented. I would suggest not to purchase this tire if u live somewhere where it snows a lot.

I am still in the same boat that you are looking for good A/S's. First I was going to pick up Nokian NRW's because of the reviews. However, there is not stock in T.O. and they're a bit pricey, but damn good tires. Now, I'm looking @ getting the Falken 512's, Michelin Hyrdoedge's or the Harmonies. The Harmonies got ruled out because they're alos too dam expensive. I just put a deposit for a set of Hydroedge's @ Costco yesterday for a very reasonable price. However, I would really like to get the 512's. They're cheap, affordable, review-well, and are probably going to be 500x better than the crappy stock Firestone's. I'm getting a really good deal on them @ a local shop; under $400 installed. If you want in as well let me know. We might be able to get an even better deal. E-mail me here: sweatshops@rogers.com
Later . . .
