Good Tires?

I am needing some new tires for my car for this coming winter (is it coming? its been so nice!)

if I only get 2 tires I am going to get the firestones to match what Ive alreay got, but if I get 4 new ones what are:
1) cheap 2)130+ speed rating 3)quiet/smooth 4)good tread wear

I know nothing about tires, so help would be great

Here is a thread from last month where we were talking about "H" rated all-season tires and 3 good choices: "Stock Tire Replacements"

Hope that helps

Upgrade to a 195-60 profile for your 15's. Its a bit lower and wider and looks good.

Bridgestone Potenza RE950 High Performance All Season Tire

I had them before, I am going back to them when I get my 17s, either those or Yokohama AVSs

I dont really need them to look great on my stock, hubcapped wheelslease: thats what my rims are for. also, I dont really need a performance tire... just a decent 4 season tire. Ive got around $160-$200 to spend... kinda hard to explain why so cheap. I might just have to go with 2 tires like the car came with so they will all match and stil not break me, but I might get them a tid bit wider... dont know how much it would help, but I know my rims are an inch wider and I can corner like crazy with them in comparison

I'd try picking up some Falken Ziex 512's. Available in pretty much all the sizes, a good all-season tire, and $55/ea from Discount Tire.

damn that is cheap!

falken is a good brand right? not as good as toyo or yokohama, but at least as good as firestone or somthing right?

do you know, are they supposed to have low road noise and fairly smooth as well?

Actually, for 185/65/15 they're only 51 a tire. Keep in mind, this wont include installation, as it's from discount tire direct. I'm sure you could find someone locally to throw them on though, and that price does include free ground shipping. Here's my attempt at a link to the tires...

Falkens @ Discount Tire

They are actually rated #1 at Consumer Reports, and I've heard very positive things about them. I've heard they're actually very nice tires - along the lines of a higher grade touring tire, way ahead of anything Firestone has to offer (well, except the Bridgestone side of the company's higher end Potenzas).

Heres the Falkens just talked about....

those are $51 a tire, wich comes to $204 for four tires, plus install whatever that might be... Ill have to find out how much that is.

when on that site I noticed these, I think I would wait just a bit more and get these - then I would feel way cooler

Which Yokos are those? We just recently put my Yoko Avid Touring's on my girlfriend's car, and for being a Geo Prizm running 185/65/14, it made a noticeable improvement in noise and wet and dry traction.

you will probably end up paying around 300 since you will have to pay for shipping charges and mouting , balancing.

Actually, Discount Tire Direct ships ground for free... so it's just be a matter of mounting and balancing. My local gas station will do it for $10 a pop.

tires reviews

Try www.tirerack.com
It has a lot of info on most of the well known tires.

Firestone FR690, the OEM tires on our '01 civic coupe, apparently is terrible.

Hi There, hope this is useful for you...I recently replaced the crappy Firestone FR-690's on my Civic with the new Michelin HydroEdge. They're speed rated at 112 or 118 (I know you wanted 130+ but these are great!). These tires are amazing! They are very quiet compared to the Firestones, and the Yokohamas I had on my previous car. They offer a great ride improvement too, and are AMAZING in the rain (even better traction on wet roads than on dry ones!). They also come with an 85000 mile warranty. I purchased them from Wal-Mart (special order) and it came to something around $460 including installation and lifetime rotation and balancing. No, they're not high-performance tires, but if anyone is looking to upgrade their crummy stock tires and willing to spend the bucks, these are well worth your money. As the saying goes, you get what you pay for! :-)

I got the Dunlop SP Sport A2s for my 2001 EX 4DR in 185/65/15 from Discount Tire. I had the local dealer have them shipped from the warehouse (That size was not available in Indy). I get free rotation and balancing for about $75 per tire. Great grip in summer and winter! I've put 22,000 miles on em since last November (2002). They made it through the worst Indiana winter (50 Inches!) in a long time. Never got stuck.

I ended up with Bridgestone Potenza RE950's... so far so good. Wet and dry traction is absolutely fantastic. They're a little noisy, but they don't squeal nearly as loud in cornering as the stocks and they quite down at cruising speed. I couldn't be happier!
