does a big brake kit replace abs?

just curious, i dont have abs, but i want a good braking system that wont lock or anything. i found out today that my brakes work well even tho i dont have abs. just slammed on the brake and let go of the clutch and i stalled to a stop before hitting the back of a car. is abs in the brakes or is it in the car somewhere. thanx.

Acutally, in a race car ABS is usually a Liability. and if you learn to Threshold Break, then you can stop just as fast if not quicker then a car with abs. It just takes time and pratice, I suggest trying autocross a couple of times. That will teach you Tons more then just driving on the street. (you dont even have to try and beat anybody, just go and learn your car).

oh ya, ABS is on the car, and the breaks them selfs. Its basicaly a computerized pump thats attached to speed sensors on the wheels. if one of the wheels stops before all the others do, then the ABS system PUMPS (Quickly pumps the brakes) to Stop the wheel from locking. Thats why you should never Pump the breaks on an ABS equiped car, it messes with the ABS system.

and Stalling the car dosn't help you slow down. when you are coming to a stop, Emergency or otherwise, put the clutch in. Also If you do try autocross, it will teach you that (Ushually) Steering around an object can be easier and safer then just slamming on your breaks and hoping you dont hit it.
