help on 5 lug conversion
well after driving a civic for 2 in a half year, i have concluded that our brakes really suck.
I have decided that i would like better brakes, i have looked around and have seen some upgrades such as wilwood and ssbc. i also searched around the fourm and have seen that to convert to 5 lug requires all the parts from a rsx.
but what i want is the stock ITR brembo's in front(12 inches) and back(10.3), the thing is that i am going to do the engine swap but not for a little while.
is there any major modification that i would have to do for the rsx brakes to work on my d17? other than the whole suspention...
i would greatly appreciate all the help

EDIT: Oh ya, the Civic also stops as fast as the Acura RSX-S... just so we can have something more Asian that you can compare it to.

the actual brake assembly bolts right up, i know from experience but....
You are probably gonna need the RSX front struts. I relized that the RSX's holes where the bolts go through are larger than the Civics. You might be able to leave it and it will give you extra adjustment, but i used the RSX struts.
You also need the brake lines for the rear, it unbolts in the fender well, and the ebrake cables because the cable ends are different.
Also i don't know what your gonna do for axles, cause i don't think the Civics will fit in the RSX spindle. Your best bet is to wait to do your swap, cause i don't think your gonna be able to put them on without the RSX or axles.
I'm gonna recommend a doner car, its alot easier and a hell of alot cheaper.
Hope i was of assistance and good luck

There are far cheaper ways to improve braking. Upgrade your pads. Get some wider/stickier tires. New brakes are kind of pointless unless you're willing to spend mad cash and if you're just doing a 5-lug for the brakes I'd look elsewhere. Hell, even big brake kits are cheaper.

I'm interested in how much heavier this will make the car..........and how much slower you'll be because of it.
Example: the Old CRX Si's had Front disk and Rear Drum. alot of people put the Later (90's) CRX Si's 4 wheel disk breaks on them. the problem with that is that it made the car 100+lbs heavier(Due to all the parts you had to add) and it didn't make the car stop any quicker.......
So my point is, if you really want to stop better there are other cheeper ways of doin it (SlammedBlueEM2 named a few). If you really just want a 5 lug conversion then sure go for it.
but dont be suprised if you dont get any added stoping power and end up going slower.
the info on the CRX's comes from a guy that has won several times Nationally in CSP (SCCA Solo II racing). He ran an 88 CRX which ended up being slower then the 85 (Which is considdered the best year for the CRX for handling). on another note, the 88 CRX's rear end (Suspension) is IDENTICAL to the Integrea type R. down to the same part #'s. wierd huh?

If you were putting in a K20 or some thing, then a little extra weight wouldnt hurt it, but if your still running the D17, then ever oz. over stock is hurting...... Sucks don't it?
