Are 45's really more comfortable then 40's?

Just curious for those who have either ridden on both sizes or know for a fact. Were 45's really more comfortable over 40's? Thanks for any replies.

The more sidewall you have the more cushion there is. I went from 215/35/18 on my old car to 215/40/18 on my Civic and I noticed a HUGE difference.

not always BlackSI, i'm going to get 45's on my 17's and many people that have 40's are changing to 45's because the wheel well doesn't get as full with 40's... it looks like it fits better with 45's, if you have a choice, go bigger

Nah, 205/40 looks too small IMO. It doesn't fill up the wheel well unless it's really slammed. 205/45, 215/40, and 215/45 are the best choices IMO.

I am in this dilemma also. I want 17's but don't know the size tire i should get. I hear 205/40/17 looks too small and that 215/45/17 are too big. What does the 205 and 215 matter? is that width or tire? How big of difference is there between 205 and 215? I know that the 45s are more comfortable but some say they look too big..anyone with pics of there 17s would be grealy appreciated!

I have the same set-up as Civicvtecps1 and I SCRUB!! Do not get 215/45/17 if you plan to lower.

I picked my car up with my new TEIN SS today and I had to take my 17's off because of the scrub on my 215/45. Tomorrow I have to go buy new tires cause I dont wanna roll my fender.

I know!!! I wasnt even dropped all the way! And i dont mean I just scrubbed like on a hard bump, I mean I scrubbed if I was not riding on glass (is that the right analogy LOL). AND IT SCRUBBED BAD!!!

I dont know my offset- I bought my rims from Discount Tire?

Sorry, they're bad pix. I have 205/40/17 w/ Neuspeed Sports. About 2 finger gaps in front and 1.5 in the back. I could definitely go lower, or get larger tires. Ride sux @$$ w/ 40 series. I think I'm gonna go 215/40 or 205/45 next, just so I can get a larger sidewall...

Yeah- I just got some 205/40/17 and the ride is really harsh and you feel everything. When I was running 215/45/17 its almost like stock but 205/40 are pretty harsh.

But they look good, lol.

205,215 is the width of the tire...If you're lookin for the least amount of road noise between the two go wit the 205. However, obviously they are not as wide as 215. Therefore u wont feel a bigger difference in handling although between 205 and 215 the difference is small.
Definetly go for 45's though, imo. They have more cushion and theres less risk of getting bulges or bubbles in your tires when u go over pot holes n stuff. IMO--215/45

I had the 45's on my hatch and the ride was like stock. I have the 205/40/17 on the 2k1 and it rides like ****. You can feel every bump in the road unless you have a good set up. I have stock struts in the front and Koni Yellows in the back.

Even if you have Tein SS, you will feel every bump in the road. ITs the damn tires. my 215/45/17 rode like stock but these 205/40/17 are rough.

In my Kumho Ecsta Supras... The tread pattern is perfect for attracting nails, screws, and other dubris on the street. In May, I got a 3" screw in my tires, right inside one of the treads. Got that patched... In June, I got a 2" nail in there... WTF, am I cursed??? Kumhos are the **** though, I'm satisfied with their performance.

Basically the only negative of 215's is road noise which is noticable but u get used to it...

Yeah your right it is the tires, but one of my friends has 205/40/17's and his car rides alot better than mine does. He has springs though instead of coilovers.

What size tires are those on your car that you posted? Ok so 205/40/17 are a ruff ride but look better....and 215/45/17 ride better but rub really bad and don't look as good...is that basically the pros and cons? and any pics of 215/45's?

I think to determine which one "looks better" is soley based on personal preference. Some people are perfectly fine with the look of the 215/45/17. Others like the look of the lower profile that comes with the 205/40/17.

I can't tell you which one rides better, since I've haven't ridden around on both. I can tell you with 40 series tires, you're gonna feel every little bump though. You learn to get used to it, if you like the look of the 205/40/17s.
