Carflector™ Dark Smoke Hood Shield by AVS

Just purchased a new Carflector™ Dark Smoke Hood Shield by AVS. Normally, these hood shields fit the OEM holes in the hood. For some reason, this model does not. Has anyone tried to install one of these on a 2013 Honda Civic LX Sedan? If so, did you have to drill holes? Did you have to use self tapping screws? Please let me know your thoughts. I contacted AVS and they said the unit should mount via the OEM holes in the hood, but they do not.

Looks like the civic ones are 3m tape install, not bolted in place. At least that's what I gather from "installation type: 3m tape" from their website. As long as you properly clean the surfaces, you should be fine. I have window visors on my 2018 that are 3m tape only install, and they're holding solid

Thanks for you quick response. Yes, it has the 3M tape. However, the instructions I received state to use the tape to hold the piece in place. It then states to use the enclosed self tapping screws to mount the unit in place. I called AVS and they state that the unit should be held in place with the tape, but then should be mounted using the existing OEM holes in the hood via four fasteners. They are shipping me the fasteners for free. However, it still won't match the OEM holes. I double checked the car and it definitely has the original Honda hood. I also confirmed that the unit I purchase was for my year / model of Honda. Guess I may need to use the 3M tape and the self tapping screws. I was just trying to avoid drilling holes.

I'll be darned. I checked out the PDF instructions on their website when I got to my laptop and it does say to use fasteners. However, the instructions look universal, but I can't be sure if they are the same instructions you received. Moreover, if AVS told you to use self-tapping screws and they're gonna send you free fasteners, then I'd listen to them. Kinda sucks you have to tap into the hood, but it is what it is. Just make sure that the screws they send aren't so long that they'll protrude out the top skin of the hood
