How to run the car on jacks?
How to run the car on jacks?
This is a simple one. I see people on youtube drive the car on jacks to diagnose issues. I have tried this and the traction system disallows the car to be driven normally on stands. How is it bypassed?
Re: How to run the car on jacks?
Most modern cars won’t let you drive while lifted because they detect wheel speed differences. The easiest workaround I’ve found is to turn off the traction control, but that might not always work, depending on your car. Sometimes, just putting the car in "towing" mode or "service" mode (if your car has one) can help bypass that safety feature.
I had to troubleshoot this on my own car when diagnosing some suspension issues, and it wasn’t until I disabled traction control that I was able to drive it slowly while lifted.
If you’re doing more work under the car, I’d also recommend checking out Astrolift for a scissor lift. I upgraded my setup with one of theirs, and it makes working on the car so much easier and safer than using jacks.
