Defrost

So every time i put the defrost on my a/c comes on. I can't turn off a/c when it's in defrost mode, only when it's on something else. I don't know if it's supposed to do this or not. and is there a way to fix it?

It is normal for the 2001-02 Civic's. There is a DIY to fix this on the site. I dont have time to find right now, but If you havent found it on here by the evening, let me know.

Guys, there's a couple of reasons why the A/C cycles in defrost mode and you may want to re-consider the mod.

First, in defrost mode the A/C compressor cycles to dehumidify the cabin. This can be especially useful on those cold and wet wintery days to get the mist off the windshield and side windows.

Second, it is a GOOD idea to cycle the A/C compressor in the winter. This keeps the compressor lubricated and helps to prevent the seals from drying out. Using defrost automatically performs this task. Years ago before HVAC systems automatically cycled the compressor auto makers recommended that you turn on the A/C once a month during the winter. With this built in mode you don't have too.

And BTW....when the heat control is turned up no real A/C function is performed other than dehumidification.
