04 Honda transmission problems
Well pretty sure the Honda is dead for a few days driving home from work it left me stranded stopped at a red light started out again it was fine seemed like the 2-3 shift was late and hard then i got up to about 70 started to climb a hill and the rpm shot up lost speed then nothing no forward gears no reverse just sits there and rev's
fluid was good level. i got it towed and today it drove for a few feet then nothing again cel is on and comes up "wrong gear ratio" so im thinking the trans is does have 265000 miles so i guess i cant complain to much. now my question is how hard is it to change these i put a motor in did the head gasket so Im not afraid to dig in and get my hands dirty any tips or trick i should know about? i searched but couldn't seem to find to much info or at least what i was looking for can i drop it out the bottom or should i just pull the entire motor and everything

Re: 04 Honda transmission problems
If you got the engine replaced, I'd expect you can handle replacing the trans as well.
My preference is to drop it out the bottom, I work in a regular shop though.
I think I have read posts from others who have said they can get it out the top. Search for more info on that?
IDK.

Re: 04 Honda transmission problems
I take out the subframe then take out the trans, leave the engine in supported by a skyhook.
If you end up replacing the trans, you will want to either flush the cooler inside the radiator, replace the radiator, or install an aftermarket cooler to bypass the original. Leftover debris from a failed trans can hide in the cooler and ruin the next trans.

Re: 04 Honda transmission problems
Google 'trans cooler flush' and check the first few hits
The addition of an inline filter is a good idea too (see the video), it protects the new trans from any debris that was missed during the flush.
Re: 04 Honda transmission problems
The other question I have is this do you know what line is the return line I searched and can't seem to find anything I would to install an inline filter for the first 10k mines then change it out just to make sure I get everything sacked up
