Rust On 97 Civic

Just bought this Honda civic and I'm new to getting into cars. Just found this spot missing due to A LOT of rust. Can anyone tell me what this part does or what it's called. And would it be a difficult job to replace it? The first picture is on the passenger side. The second is on the drivers side which isn't missing the piece.

Re: Rust On 97 Civic

any way you can get us a pic with the camera pulled back a bit? Kinda hard to tell where it is. Looks like LCA/subframe-ish, and the round bar going across the bottom of the 2nd pic looks like sway bar

trying like hell to figure out what orientation relative to the car those pics are taken. I can only guess bottom-up

Jesus that is scary bad, I hope you paid next to nothing for that car. That is the subframe and lower control arms all of that needs to be replaced. See if someone in your town/city imports car parts from the southern states, otherwise it's going to cost a ton for a brand new subframe, if one is even available. Scared to ask but what is the rest of the car like?

I'm tempted to call that a write-off before I see the rest of the photos (unless it's a LOT better). Best to either cut your losses or buy another 6th gen and use this one for parts.

Sorry haven't been able to take new pictures but it's somewhere around thereish. What if I were to find one at a junkyard or something. Also the brakes and power steering is bad.

you might get lucky and find one at a yard but chances are that they will be in similar condition or potentially worse. Did you look under the car before you bought it?
