How can I trip my trunk light sensor so the light will go off?

Hello! I just got rear-ended in my '08 Civic EX Sedan...my second time getting rear-ended this year. UGH! This time, my trunk will not close, so we've bungeed it until we can take it in to the shop, but the problem is the trunk light will not go off, and I'm worried about it draining the battery. I am pretty sure the sensor to trip it off is in the latch assembly, but I keep fiddling with it and can't find it. I figured it'd be one of those little buttons (like in your refrigerator) and I could tape it down, but evidently it is more complicated than that! Can any of you help???

Easy, quick solution: take the bulb out.

either push up the trunk latch on the trunk so it clicks in the closed position or disconnect the bulb or wire connector. the lamp assembly should pop out of the frame.
