2K1 Civic Oil Changes
2K1 Civic Oil Changes
Hey all wuzup. I have a question about Civics and oil changes. Im very new to Hondas, I have a 2001 Civic LX and a 1999 CRV. I was lookin at the owners manual (Civic) and it suggests that I change my Oil every 10K , is that right? In my F150 I would change it every 3K to 4K. Any coments will help, thanks in advance.

My manual suggest 5k intervals. I usually stumbe into the dealer at ~4k or so....
You just have to remember that the 3k interval was invented by the oil changing industry, i.g. jiffy lube.
Although, I think changing the oil very frequently only hurts one thing, your wallet. Do whatever makes you feel good mentally.

I have a 2001 LX with 65,000+ miles and usually change oil at 4000 mile intervals. I agree with Mbow that the 3000 mile thing is mostly pushed by oil change shops and oil companies. But I now plan to keep my car for "for the long haul" and 10,000 mile oil changes just don't sit well with me! I have gone 5000 a few times - the manual recommendation for severe use.

Mbow is right. 3000 is BS.
The correct mileage would be every 7500 miles, but that does sound a bit excessive.
I changed mine every 5000-6000 miles.

Depends how you drive... More city driving means you should probably change it more often... if you use synthetic, then you can go longer. My boss used to work for Mobil 1, he changes his oil once a year (18000 or so miles), and his car has 275K on it now... so clearly the oil can take it. My dad's BMW has 12K intervals on it. The oil can handle it, if you're going to drag it out to 18000 its recommended that you change the filter mid way, but the oil is fine. I've been changing mine every 3K with Mobil 1, but now that I have 20000 miles on it, I'm pretty sure any crap in the engine from when it was made is now long gone and flushed out... so I'm probably going to start increasing the interval to 5000 and see how it looks, then go up from there, but I wouldn't go more than 7500 on an oil change.
i baby my car 2 death!!! every 3k or 3mths.. and im not hard on her at all. i go by what my bf tellz me. he's a mechanic and does my crap on the side. (oil changes) i figure more is better then less. so i do it on a schedule.

i baby my car and drive it alot. i put 3k on in in 2.5 months. so every 3k PLUS filter. everytime. that idea to change the filter every other oil change is BS. i stick w/3 months /3k miles. its not like its expensive.
