FOUL ODOR during Start-up - 2001++ CIVIC

GUys, was just wondering if you have the same problem.

Here in the philippines, the 2001 Civic Sedan ( we don't have the hatchback edition ) somehow has this flaw.

ALL owners that I have interviewed has complained about a certain "foul odor" ( something that smells like a dirty old rag ) that emits from the aircon during start-up, and continues to emit the odor for about 3-5mins.

I had my unit checked already by the dealer and the ONLY Remedy that they proposed was to OPEN the WINDOWS after using and before using the car to remove the odor. They told me that it has something to do with the air circulating inside.

Any comments on this? would you guys have the same problem? suggestions please.

I don't have the free leatherette cover, but I did purchase the leather seatcovers. ( Mahal-mahal, wala naman ganong kalaking impact )

What I'm doing now is always making sure that I have ample stock of AMBI PURE, besides that, nothin' else works.

Bad Trip talaga.

Due to the high humidity of the phillipines, it's probably mildew growing in there? That happened in another car of mine, but that was because I had the air on recirculate all the time so moisture was building up.

Since it's so humid there(isn't it? not sure, never been there!), I don't know what you can do...

Just make sure it's not set to recirculate all the time.

Check those filters behind your glove box. There are 2 of them, that filter the air. there might be something nasty in them.

Had it checked, i forgot that it was also suggested by the dealer to me. THey told me that they replaced the filter already, but the F**kin' ODOR IS STILL THERE!

I hate it when they charge me somethin' that doesn't work!! A friend of mine also had his filter changed, and it also didn't remove ( or at the very least ) lessen that foul smell.
