I am REALLY starting to HATE 7th GEN CIVICS
Hello guys, i have an 02 EX Coupe auto, and i was wondering if you guys notice a slight, low pitch rumbling as you ever so slightly give it gas? Im guessing maybe something to do with bearings?? Also, guess what? Only 2 k miles on the car, and the brakes are starting to make that grinding noise. = \ I seriously am thiking about calling honda to return their POS. Any insight? esp. about that 1st prob? I know what youll all say.. take it to the dealer. Well whenever i do, i get one more ding on the doors, or grease on my seat, and especially they will tell me those familiar words "seems normal to me" Mind you this car is a little over a month old!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I hear ya about the brakes...I have heard nothing but bad things about the stock brakes, that is why I am swapping to Neuspeed cross-drilled rotors w/ new pads in the spingtime...as for the dings and stuff, I already have 2 dings on my passenger side, the p/s quarter panel is misaligned and the p/s door doesn't close properly....but no doubt, I love my car, looks like hell now though because of the winter and road salt...

Don't know about the engine noise. However, why are you ever so lightly giving it gas to begin with?
How about some more info on the brakes. A grinding noise huh?
There have been a few people complaining about their brakes wearing out very quickly. I think those people just like to mash their brake and abuse it. They don't realize it as it is part of their driving style.

I have had my car since May of 01. I now have 22500 miles. I might have to agree with Mbow, my brakes are fine. Sometimes the brakes will develop a small amount of rust around them when around damp conditions. That will result in some grinding, but than should go away. If you only 2000 miles, and your brakes are grinding, I would go to the dealer, I have never heard of brakes going that soon. I can also say that I have no dings that I have noticed yet. Grease on the seat is weird? The only problem I had was when I got my car, the passenger side door, didnt match the rear panel, but my dealer promptly had it taken care of. My other problem that is back is the damn drivers seat is starting to rock again. I would go to the dealer with a list and say "hey look at this $hit now, or I'm gonna call honda of america" I had to make one of those calls and my dealer now treats me very well. Wish you lcuk.

Just hit 17K on my car. The brakes are starting to squeal, so I guess it's time to replace them. I highly doubt my "driving style" caused them to wear out. I always use the engine to do most of the braking.
Plus, 17k isn't bad for a brake pads life span. You would think you have 2,000 miles with your attitude.
If you are hearing noises at part throttle and if you are using any oil, then you could have bad rod and/or main bearings. But, heck the car's still under warranty. Can you find another dealer not to far away? Some serice managers are a*****es and just plain lazy.
edit: Gee look at all the little *** you get then you say a*****es. I bet you can't say f**k either.

If you hear the noise when you let off the gas, it's rod bearings.
If you hear the noise when you press on the gas, it's mains.
Either way you would see some blue smoke come out the exhaust if they are really bad.
Most likely it's just some vibrations from your engine and nothing to worry much about cause when the bearings really really go, your engine will lose oio pressure and lock up. That's when you know for sure.
PS: Did you ever take it to Honda and get it checked out?

I always thought that you would only see blue smoke(from burning oil) it you had an upper engine problem. Like something wrong with the valve train system(valves, valve stem seals, etc.), bad head gasket or bad rings. I say this since the main and rod bearings arent directly part of the combustion chamber.
Maybe have someone rev the engine up while in PARK as you listen under the hood. It could be as simple as the heat-shield over the exhaust manifold or some other part thats loose. That noise could be coming from anything, not neccessarily the engine..

If you have bad bearings you're going to burn oil. That smoke is going to go out the exhaust. Sure, there are otther things that can cause smoke, but combined with a grinding noise, it sounds like bearings.
If you hear your brakes start to squeal, then it's time to get new pads. Anyways, the stock Civic brakes work just fine. I've got > 45,000 miles on my brakes and they still work like a champ. I still have about 70% of the pads left, and this is with running on a 200 hp drivetrain for the past 10,000 miles or so.
Switching to aftermarket pads will not make your brake pads wear less, in fact, your aftermarket pads will wear out faster because aftermarket performance pads are usually made of a softer material (so they can catch and stop the rotor faster).

He said
" low pitch rumbling as you ever so slightly give it gas? Im guessing maybe something to do with bearings"
I'm just trying to scare him into taking the car to the shop with my engine bearing stories. Also from experience, rod's will knock or when you let off the gas and mains will knock when you are giving it gas, under load. But if you get to that point, the friction should be causing some oil consumption.
After the grinding remark, he did mention brakes:
" Also, guess what? Only 2 k miles on the car, and the brakes are starting to make that grinding noise."
