How Often Do You Have To Take Your Car To Maintenance?

Every paper/online I read, the numbers are different.

I have a new 2002 Civic EX and I'm almost reaching 5500 miles.

Is this a schedule to go with?

The manual says every 5k miles under severe driving and every 10K miles under normal driving. I'm going the every 5k route because I drive in severe conditions.

I've got 19,780, almost time for 20,000 mile oil change...no maintenance at all, except alignment because I got new rims and somehow it messed with the alignment of my steering wheel??? I don't know, I just know I had to get it done.

My 2k1 will go over 50,000 miles in a few days and I have never taken to the dealership for anything except warranty - most of which was a waste of time because the problems are still there. (Fuel gauge , creaky clutch , clunking noise in steering over bumps)

All my oil changes , tire rotations , fluid top offs , door hinge lubrication , wiper blade replacement and air filter replacement have been done at home.
