Noisy civic...suspension/interior
I feel every little bump or strip in the road and they make my poor civic jump and it seems as if the entire inside of my car moves and makes noise...especially the dash area. The problem has gotten worse with time as I've driven my car just over a year now and have 10k on it. I've taken it to the dealer where I purchased it and the service manager told me that "my car is made of plastic inside and is going to make noise when I hit bumps." I then took it to another dealer only to have them tell me that "my car has a European suspension...that it is set up more for sporty handling than it is to handle bumps." I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same thing...every tiny little bump, crack, or strip in the road, I can totally feel...almost like I don't have a supsension at all. I have read somewhere about something called "bump intrusion"...I don't know exactly what bump intrusion is, but, I can only assume that it is what I am experiencing. Is this normal for our Civics??? I have driven Honda's/Acura's all my life and have never had one sound like it was falling apart over every little road irregularity. The dealers that I have been to make me feel like I am going mad...I don't know what to do. Help!!!

Thanks for the reply...I don't mean just rattles...I mean it feels as if every single little bump is transmitted right into the cabin where it makes my dash and almost everything sound like it is loose and make a terrible noise. Does anyone else experience this? I am trying to get Honda to help me and so far they are saying there is nothing wrong with my car. I recently got back from a trip to Cancun Mexico...I rented a Nissan Tsuru which is the same as a Sentra...not the new model, the previous model, and the roads in Mexico are like washboards and the Tsuru was solid like a bank vault. I couldn't help but think if I had my Civic down there that it would just fall apart piece by piece. I just want to know if this is typical of this gen Civic or mine has something wrong with it. Please help me with some info.
Yeah dude...I feel your pain. I put in an Alpine about a year ago and it started to rattle while on the road. Drove me crazy so I put the stock cd player in.....Plus I put rims and tires (Dunlop)..think'n that would that would take away the steel wheel noise with the crap Firestones, but I still get noises....BUT!!! You know what did work??..I put some weather stripping on the inside of the glove compartment to make it snug when I shut it...That helped take away some of the noises....

Make sure your tires aren't over inflated, the dumb A$$ tech at the dealer put 44lbs of air in all my tires and it rode like a rock. I guess he though that the max tire pressure number on the tire was the right pressure, I brought them down to 30lbs and it rode much better.

hey thanks for the input...but my car is really bad. I honestly feel like I am drivig a Yugo! Do you think that the dealer would just be screwing me...not really checking my suspension...just because they are being lazy and don't want to fix my car cause they don't get paid for fixing "under warranty" problems. BTW...my suspension is totally stock, no mods at all. I am thinking of writing corporate and going head to head with Mr. Honda himself...what do you think?
One more thing...how do you tell if your suspension is ok? When I push on my car in the front it feels like I am pushing on an old couch...very soft and mushy, no firmness to it at all. Isn't it supposed to be kinda firm and bounce right back?

It could be your suspension bushings. In 2k1 models its quite a common problem. first they start squeaking over harsh roads and then you start feeling the car really bad over bumps, it kind of jumps.
I got the bushings replaced on the rear suspension and that took care of the problem (warranty fixed). still the ride on the civic is a little bouncy, thats the way it is.
As for interior rattles, the only way to fix them is with tons of patience and one at a time...

Hey thanks... I just called Honda and talked with Tina. She is going to have the service manager of another dealer call me to set up an apptmt. She says that if they don't see anything wrong with my car that I can make an apptmt. with the regional service tech guy. Hopefully someone can help me. I get so angry with my car...definitely not up to Honda's old standard of quality. This is really so so sad...I have waited and waited and saved and saved to finally get my own Honda and I've had nothing but problems with it and I really can't wait to pay it off so that I can get something that is put together a lot better. I hope that Honda learned it's lesson with the problems on this generation Civic and get their act together...the only bad thing about this one is that no one(dealers) is willing to admit that there are a lot of problems with this model...and that leaves all of us stuck. UGH!!!
